When I had a 2005, I bought some CAN bus aux input adapter and drilled a hole in the console so I could feed an audio cable through. It plugged into the back of the head unit. Something like this (sorry I can't seem to find any still sold):

Worked pretty much like the OEM one in 2007 did, just not as clean of an install.

You have a 2006 mustang, I'm guessing? My stereo looks just like that.

To use the aux port you'll need to do a few things.

First thing, you'll need to get an "Ford Auxiliary Input Converter". They had them on amazon a while ago, but they seem to be out of stock. Here's the one I got. It was $80 or so when I got it.

It doesn't come with the cable or the mounting kit, so I bought this at the same time.

This video shows you how to access the stereo.

Personally, I ran the cable back to the center console box and mounted the input there. Now I can plug my cellphone into the audio and power and have it out of the way.

You need a PIE adapter. It plugs into the CD changer port on the back of the radio and provides you with stereo audio RCA port, that activates whenever you hit the AUX button. You can usually find them on ebay or by searching the web.

You will need to tap power lines for the device to work. I do not remember which lines I tapped when I installed mine, but I went with a switched source so it was not always powered.
