It absolutely was. I had one of those TVs, its was a Playstation-branded 3D monitor. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3D-display-3/dp/B0050SZ49Y

You just described the Playstation 3D Display.

Sony did also make a TV for their PS3.
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3D-display-3/dp/B0050SZ49Y

Which does have very cool simultaneous viewing via 3D tech for two players.

I'm using the Sony brand monitor that was meant for PS3 (but I only ever used it for 360 and PC). I bought it specifically for the ridiculous refresh rate and beautiful screen, its full 1080p with two HDMI ports and amazing 3D (that works on both console and PC).

New, it can run anywhere from 250 to 300, but used it drops down to 150 and above. I highly recommend this!

I think the previous users that have asked about this product were met with these general responses:

  • They seem to have a high failure rate. You can check some of the comments on Amazon or Google it yourself.
  • Some people get headaches from using the two-player, one view mode in certain games. It depends on how sensitive you are. There is some slight ghosting effect (where you can still faintly see your friend's portion of the screen).
  • Cannot mount onto a wall as it is meant for a desk.
  • Speakers are so-so.

If you do decide to get it, make sure to get the extended warranty. You're likely going to need it.

I'm assuming it's this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050SZ49Y/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2L77EE7U53NWQ

I tried to order one myself, but it won't ship to the UK.

Sony tried...and failed (I assume -- I haven't seen those things in a long time). While I haven't used one, I can only imagine the eyestrain and headaches that would induce.

I don't know why you are downvoted, but you're correct.

As for the full screen split screen, I think it has less to do with the glasses and more to do with the type of TV. As far as I know, it's called Simulview, and it only works if you have this tv:

That's how Sony's very own PlayStation TV worked.

I always get it confused the other Playstation TV (technically PS 3D Display) and got super excited.

u/Fishvtt · 1 pointr/gaming

Sony made a product some time ago for this - link - I haven't actually tried it out, but it seems very cool.

Err yeah just a regular monitor with speakers.

Basically these two:

Like I said, I’ll probably have a much better set up once I’ve settled in for awhile. But, can anyone even make a makeshift surround sound with those two items. I have are a few audio cables and transceiver for wireless audio.

u/project23 · 1 pointr/PS3

Not sure it applies to your situation, but the Playstation 3d Display allows 2 people to play games (that support the feature) with full screen display using the 3d glasses. Check out this

And for the record, despite the dislike that people seem to have about this TV, I've found it to be pretty incredible. I've only noticed this problem recently (not to say it hasn't always been there).

u/protopersona · 1 pointr/PS4

You mean this one? It's not a bad price really, not sure it's worth it if you're not going to make use of the 3D tech though. Probably can get a better screen in your budget by now. Still look at a few reviews and weigh your options.

u/wildcarde815 · 1 pointr/gaming

That depends entirely on what those two screens are doing, could you put a map up on screen two and keep it relatively stably displayed. Probably, but I doubt you could relive your golden eye couch battling with 1 system and two screens.

However, that said, there's precedence for it on the PS3. They released a screen with a technology called Simulview that allowed 2 players with polarized 3D glasses to view separate views on the same screen.

u/piedude3 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have this monitor. Its bezel is bigger than it appears. I would take nearly anything over it. Except a lower resolution. I will probably get a 29" 21:9 monitor soon though.

u/neonturts · 1 pointr/PS4

Oh, I thought this was the Playstation TV
It looks like a great choice for its price (24", 3D, 1080p) and it comes with a PS3 game and 3D glasses.

u/sakipooh · 1 pointr/gaming

It only came in 24 inches...

Amazon.com link

I was lucky enough to buy it at a local Best Buy during some insane Christmas sale for only $99 CAN. It came with a pair of 3D glasses, and HDMI cord and a copy of Motorstorm 3D for the PS3.

I got this Sony Playstation 3D Display for $200 some black friday/cyber monday 2 years ago. The image quality is fantastic but the audio is very tinny. Use headphones. There's a 3.5mm audio out on the side. Attaches via HDMI, Component, and composite connections.

u/EZFlash3in1 · 1 pointr/4kTV

Again can you please go into to any detail? I don't much care for picture quality unless it's like OLED or something, why would this look significantly worse than other LED tvs? Is it not actually 4k or something? And how would it work for gaming?

again i'm upgrading from this thing https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3D-display-3/dp/B0050SZ49Y how would they compare? a TCL or Vizio is outside of my budget range. In your opinion what are the best 4k TVs of atleast 40 inches I could get for 400$ canadian or less?

I found the Amazon Page with over 200 reviews. I'm still trying to decide whether to pull the trigger.

Oh sorry I didn't realize that it wasn't in my saved list.

For my monitor I currently using this because I had it already before making my Pc

u/TrandaBear · 1 pointr/truegaming

Sony made an actual tv for that purpose but it was expensive, impractically small, and kinda shotty by Sony standards. It was also burdened with expensive, propriety hardware (those glasses cost $100 each!).

u/TheGoldenGooseTurd · 1 pointr/Amd

Gotcha, I'll have to check into FreeSync monitors possibly. Gonna use my Sony monitor initially though. Hopefully it'll hold up well for 1080p gaming

I got a few of these Black Friday 2012 from Best Buy for 100 bucks a pop!!!

Correct.

Edit: it appears Sony's link no longer exists, here it is on Amazon.

Are you looking at this ad?

I think the ad you were looking at was from a different seller, J&R Music and Computer World. The link above is the one sold by Amazon.

u/vigillan388 · 0 pointsr/hometheater

This already exists the the Playstation 3D TV.

It takes advantage of the screen polarization to give each player a full screen gaming experience. It appears they call it Simulview. Here is an example of it in action.

I see no reason why they can't do this for TV / films. I've also seen something similar in car navigation screens, where the drive will see the normal radio / navigation info, but the passenger could watch a movie, all on the same 7" screen.

u/imsoowaavy · -1 pointsr/PS4

I use the official Sony PlayStation 3D Display for my gaming needs.

  • Comes with a pair of 3D glasses
  • 240HZ refresh rate
  • SimulView
  • 2 HDMI Ports & 3.5mm jack for headphones input
  • Comes With A Free HDMI Cable
