I would say PS4 is the better choice because it has a bigger variety of games. God of war bundle is probably the best choice right now.
But just so you know Xbox One also has a blueray player (the newer ones actually have a better one then PS4 because they can play 4k bluerays) and you have to pay for online on both systems.
It seems the news you are going off of is from the ps3 and xbox 360 era which is when both those facts were true.

This one comes with the digital deluxe edition already installed I think, or with a digital code of it I don't remember, but any version of the game is fine, the extra content is no game changing stuff, mostly cosmetic. Hope it helps :)
