Costs for the starting, complete virtual reality package that includes the headset, audio, 2 motion controllers, and the platform:

(Complete here means full headset tracking, motion controllers for hand tracking, and some sort of headphone solution for audio)

|Oculus Rift | HTC Vive | Playstation VR
---|---|---|---
Platform | $850 PC | $850 PC | $350 PS4
Headset | $600 | $800 | $400
Controllers | $??? | $0 | $60 ($30x2)
Tracking | $0 | $0 | $45
Audio | $0 | $0 | $0
Total | $1450+++ | $1650+ | $875+

* For HTC Vive and PSVR earbud alternatives, headphones have a lot of price variation. Depending on the brands you get, generally the more you pay for your audio, the better your virtual reality audio experience will be. My virtual reality headphone-type (open, closed, in-ear, etc.) breakdown can be found here. I also highly recommend looking at Head-Fi's price recommendation list for good ideas on headphones to consider purchasing.

Quick, cheap PC with minimum Rift/Vive specifications that includes everything as if you're starting from absolutely nothing.

CPU | Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor | $189.99

Keyboard | Fellowes 9892901 Wired Standard Keyboard | $5.37
Mouse | V7 M30P20-7N Wired Optical Mouse | $4.71
| Total | $863.10

--------------------

You can cut costs further by removing keyboard, mouse, monitor, and perhaps finding a way to get a discount on the operating system. You can also change the case, or the storage for something cheaper. You may be able to lower the power supply, but I don't recommend it. If you remove the OS, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, you can cut about $160 off.

Technically, he got it for 16.71% of $20 which is about $3.34.

Assuming the PS4 to cost $358.95 as displayed on Amazon and Battlefront to cost $59.99.

u/-CdG-Luck · 40 pointsr/Gamingcirclejerk

If you're going to jerk about consoles, at least get your fucking information right.

Consoles are NOT $400 anymore. At most, $350 for a new one. PS4 $349 [Xbox One S $299](
https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-S-500GB-Console/dp/B01GW3GY3K/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1466543769&sr=1-9&keywords=xbox+one) Wii U $299

5 games will cost $300 if you don't have GCU or Amazon Prime and buy new releases, shit. I could pre-order 5 games now on Amazon and it'll be less than $250.

What the fuck kind of accessories are you buying that'll equal $100 - 200? I bought a fucking stand and another controller and a usb extension cable. Under $100. Double digits motherfucker.

Yep. Uh huh. 1 year is totally $150.

u/GhostOfRattman · 30 pointsr/pcmasterrace

That build is $374. You can get a PS4 with Uncharted 4 on Amazon right now for $269, over $100 less. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28/

You could argue online functionality though PlayStation Plus is entirely optional. But now that the cost of that is being brought up, I may as well point out that that build has no mouse, keyboard, controller or other input device factored in. Whereas PS4s at least come with a DualShock 4.

u/anotheranonaccount5 · 30 pointsr/GameDeals
u/ejgbarlongo · 24 pointsr/PS4

Cheaper? They both cost around $250.

PS4

Xbox

In fact, the PS4 is actually $5 cheaper than the Xbox One.

> So why buy a XBox if you can play the exact same games on the cheaper Playstation 4?

Right Now, Amazon has the PS4 Pro w/ RDR2 available for Pre-order for $400, releasing on 10/26.

So, depending on how soon "coming up" is, it might work out...

Otherwise you're giving a lovely bit of anticipation, AND a gift.

Amazon's "Prime Now" app/website has the $200 1TB PS4 in stock, though you have to live in an eligible area/zip code and also have Amazon Prime.

Another option is Walmart/GameStop/Best Buy/Target etc, they should have more units in stock for Cyber Monday hopefully.

PS4 Slim/Uncharted 4 Bundle is currently on same at Amazon for $250 if you're interested now. It's only $300 normally, so you're not missing out on that much if you want to wait to see if the remasters are good/not actually platform exclusive.

Are they? Or are you not taking into account the fact that US advertisements don't include taxes?

Edit: I've just done a stupid comparison. On Amazon.it the cheapest ps4 is €234, on Amazon.com it's $248, which is €222 at the time of writing. However, the US version bundles Uncharted. To me, those look like prices in the same order of magnitude.

u/Dezipter · 6 pointsr/GameDeals

Sadly, Many of us should have taken advantage of the 15% off earlier during Black Friday. But if you were unable to get one, this is about a great deal.

Feel free to go ahead and "a lower price" on Amazon Ps4 Pro , so more of us in the States can get in on it.

Show me a gaming PC that can run the game better than a PS4 for £230. £270 if we include the complete FF14 collection. Hell I can get a MW bundle right now on Amazon for £209.

Even with the most brainiac of choices you will not build a gaming pc or even something barely decent for £250-270.

u/RayCharlizard · 5 pointsr/PS4

Country? $300 USD is the MSRP for that so it's not really a "deal". A better deal would be to get a 500GB bundle with Uncharted 4 and external HDD for expanded storage.

PS4 Slim 500GB w/ Uncharted 4 ($257.99) + Seagate Expansion 1TB ($54.99)
= $312.98, or 500GB (before formatting) more storage and Uncharted 4 for an extra $13.

u/lakerswiz · 5 pointsr/nba

You can get the PS4 in a bundle with a game for $199 on sale.

Amazon has em for $250-ish right now.

The Switch will be $300 and you'll have to hope to be able to find one and that's without any games. And the Switch has a very, very small library with no huge increase seemingly planned. Though they'll be adding Mario Kart 8 Deluxe soon and eventually Mario, plus Zelda is just fucking incredible.

I have 0 knowledge of Xbone.

Amazon.ca has this price, too. Interesting that "suspend mode" is now in the list of features despite just being updated the other day. It looks like this is Sony's marketing strategy; get the new update out, drop the price in "sale" mode.

I wouldn't be surprised it Canadian PS4 price was permanently reduced to $400 in the next 6 months. Maybe there will be a different bundled game at that time. A great deal for people who haven't actually played Last of Us yet, though!

I say stop waiting and jump in. I was waiting for a great PS4 deal as well, and finally settled for the Uncharted Collection bundle for $300 delivered. it was that, or I was considering the Uncharted 4 bundle. Sony knows they have the best-selling console this generation, and they also know Uncharted 4 is going to be huge. they have far less incentive to be aggressively price competitive compared to Microsoft.

u/AwesomeOnsum · 3 pointsr/PS4

u/mtlyoshi9 · 3 pointsr/PS4

First of all, you don't need PS+ or extra controllers to play this single player game.

Thus to "just play this one game" (his words) it would cost $250 for the PS4 (and that includes Uncharted 4 bundled in!) + $60 for HZD, for a total of $310 + tax. Not exactly $600.

I suppose this assumes he has a screen to play it on and a house/electricity to power it (which he should, given that he's said he plays PC games with his wife).

Trying to piece this out on amazon:

You wouldn't be paying $500 for a single game. You'd be paying $299 for a PS4, a console capable of playing more games than just CoD, and as much as $60 for the game.

u/AgentZen · 2 pointsr/amazon

Look on the website and see for yourself. Search for items you are interested in and pay attention to the big green (sometimes red) letters just under the price. Item availability is standard, it is not effected by a prime membership one bit, so theres no reason not to check it out before you sign up for a prime trial/paid membership.

ie, this shows in stock:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018V3ISJ2

this shows in stock, but may require an extra 1-2 days to process: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WJOU7DA/

It honestly wasn't easy to find a prime item with a avliability status that wasn't "In stock." I probably clicked through 15 items before i was able to give you this example. YMMV depending on what kind of items you're looking at.

A neat little tip is to click and view the other sellers that have this item for sale, if you see the one that is sold by Amazon.com, it might even give you more information. In this case it will tell you: "Back-ordered. Due in stock July 8 -- order now to reserve yours"

If you can't find your way there, you can use this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00WJOU7DA/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

u/TheHumanZoid · 2 pointsr/changemyview

Exclusives? But isn't that entirely subjective in terms of how good they are. Also, a higher budget does not necessarily mean a good game, take Destiny for example ($500m budget) and it only averaged out at 76% as a Metacritic score when a game like World of Warcraft (PC exclusive) was developed on a $40m budget and has a 93% metacritic score. Also, there is a common misconception of PC games usually being indie, well, Arma 3, Age of Empires, Amnesia, Anno 2070, Cities: Skylines, Elite: Dangerous, Guild Wars 2, League of Legends, LOTRO, Mount & Blade, Total War games, Sims franchise, RuneScape, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Star Citizen and many other non-Indie games would like a word with you.

I still stand by simplicity but that's not a good enough reason for me to switch.

Cheap? Well, you are definitely correct about it being cheap but you should have a look at this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3wggVn - it costs $344 (before rebates) which is $5 cheaper than Amazon's listing of the PS4 which has 500GB less space than the PC build and is the same price as Amazon's listing of the Xbox One but you get the same amount of space.

Now, onto your final point about PC games being under maintained. First, it's not like that consoles have not had technical problems before. Secondly, your statement does hold truth in the sense that some multi-platform titles run like crap on Day 1 but this is largely attributed towards each PC being different and every console being the same. But, with things such as GeForce experience, PC optimizing has never been easier. I do partly agree with you, but it still would not be enough to make the move to console as for every crappy port there is, there are hundreds of good ones which are well optimized (GTA V being an example). This also isn't the fault of the platform but the fault of lazy game developers.

u/PMental · 2 pointsr/oculus

> Especially people that aren't in the US.

Don't forget prices in general in the rest of the world tends to be a lot higher though, that isn't just true for the Rift.

PS4 with COD US: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-500GB-Console-Black-Bundle-4/dp/B018V3ISJ2/

PS4 with COD UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-500GB-Call-Duty/dp/B015MSRAIE

That's 31% more you pay in the UK for the PS4, if we apply that to the PSVR price we get over $650. The total becomes over the equivalent of $1100, still below PC+Rift but not as far as you'd expect.

> I've always said you could spend $300 on a cheap computer and $500 on a console

Ehm, buddy...I love PC gaming too, but a PS4 costs 250-300$ and a proper gaming PC costs at least 600-700$. And those are some of the cheapest parts, only 8GB and no optical drive.

You can't play shit on a 300$ PC.

From the PS4 I think he wanted one of the newer Kingdom Hearts games. This or this. Also you just look up Arduino or rasperry pi kits and there's usually some game kind of deal.
Also here's some PS4 stuff. 1 or 2. If you do two check the sellers for best ratings and stuff. But 1 seems the way to go because of the game. Also if you do just end up getting him a PS4 no game get the kid kingdom hearts remaster (not the 2.8).
But if you go aruino go with this and this and this. Those three are cheaper than the PS4 and he'll learn more.
Also all this is from the perspective of a guy who's had to buy his own games and stuff.

u/Akikaze25 · 2 pointsr/RandomActsOfGaming

Ok, sure, let's give it a try, nothing to lose, just the tiniest chance to win, but it's something :)

I guess I would be ok with a Playstation 4, did not own a console in almost a decade and this one actually has games I would care about. Here is one. Would have gone for a PS4 pro, but I think that one releases sometime during the middle of November.

Thanks for making someone very happy. Also, congrats on your profit.

u/YouKnowWhom · 2 pointsr/CrackWatch

Are firmwares not known by serial or other numbers on the co sole at this time?

I. The past I remember it being possible to tell when the console was produced>what firmware it had by serial.

Edit: nevermind, it seems manufacture date is located on the ps4 box, and I’ve found a partial list of mfg date and firmware version.

Here is the incomplete list

mostly start dates. with no end dates, but im fairly certain the mfg date on any new box will be enough to determine firmware, unless it is a newer bundle/ps4 slim that is still in production.

i live in a fairly large city, and all stores have many older bundles. they are also available online.

i found the uncharted bundle in the link above for 340, which seems reasonable to me.

obviously a used unit or unit you can test is best. personally ill take my chances on the mfg date ob the box when i buy eventually. (totally broke for a bit).

*hereis the uncharted 500gb slim model. 5 dollars less than a 1tb with uncharted included. NOTE: this is an affiliate link from the above listed site! If you wish, please search it out on your own as to not give $$ to the above site if you so wish. I have no connection with them and this is a disclaimer.

There are pro models with firmware starting at 4.05-4.07, but it will be harder to determine pro firmware from the date, unless you search for more Info, which I’m sure is easily doable.

If anyone buys a ps4 pro, let an active forum list know what firmware it has!

Alright.

I read the post the day you posted it, never really thought I'd give it a go though. After almost a week, when seeing like 2000 comments on an RaoG thread, it feels good to just look at it. And here I am, entering to request a successor for my 10 year old gaming companion, the playstation 2. Never got a chance to use the PS3, and I consider it one of the regrets that I'm gonna carry to my deathbed. Maybe its all for the best.

A PlayStation 4 Pro would be my request to you.

Just so you know, I'm working on saving money to get myself a PlayStation 3, even if it's a little late.

Just remember, you won't be forgotten. For us mortals, you would forever be that guy who made that one average redditor's wildest dream come true.

Cheers.

My mistake... stand corrected. Didn't realize they started making 500gb ones again. The one I ordered was from the link below.. cuh-2115a. Which are indeed the old discontinued models on 4.73.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0RU6LY/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_taa_.aNZBbZV7QBFM

About 300 bucks right now. I suggest buying from dealzone distributors if you do go that route.

u/Captain_Midnight · 2 pointsr/GameDeals

While the official list price for the 500GB Slim is $299, the street price typically hovers around $250. This Amazon discount is considered special because it's a new color. It's possible that the Slim will hit $200 during Black Friday.

u/xemakon · 2 pointsr/PSVR

Ok that makes sense, you are inside the window from 4/10-5/7 where the price dropped. Anyone in this window should have an easier time getting the price dropped, outside of that when the price was $79 (60 respectively with the discount applied) will have a harder time. This is why I had to fight and only got a credit. If the graph on camelcamelcamel is accurate I have not idea how some people got the discount before that. This whole price manipulation thing and unwillingness to honor price match is really souring me on Amazon.

u/K-putt · 2 pointsr/PS4

Well, in a way i get it, but on the other hand it's a games console. It's there to have fun. Then again, it's not like PS4 can't be tacky either.

The pc is as cheap as a console, has an OS, can run modern games at 1080p60 at at least console grade settings and set up should be as easy as sliding the side panel off, clicking the gpu in place and installing the nvidia drivers. (wich is just spamming next)

Other benefits are: free online, upgradability, cheaper games, etc. (those and more are listed in the post above)

lol because there's no other hybrid console and you're being intentionally selective to try and make a point.

Both the PS4 and XBox One can be bought at less than $300 and while they lack mobility and Nintendo properties, they still have plenty to offer that make them even better bargains in my opinion. Their own exclusives, better third-party support, streaming services, a Blu-Ray/4K DVD player, etc.

XBox One S 500GB with NLF 18 - $230

Again, no there were not. There were incentives for watching content in the in game theater. Nothing to do with CWL, and nothing to do with the 100K viewers.

Also, talking about looking stupid, neither of those links even mention anything to do with the in game viewers counting towards the views on mlg.tv.

MLG.TV =/= Live Event Viewer.

They are completely different platforms, and do not count as viewers when watching on the in game theater.

The process to downgrade is a little bit complicated...
See you have to open up your PS4 and take literally all the components out.
There are stores that sell these boxes full of PS4 spare parts, find a box from a 4.55 PS4.
Remove all the parts from the useless plastic container inside, then throw it away, since it's useless, then put your old PS4 back together, but replace all the parts that you have two of now with the new ones.
Boom- Firmware downgrade.

Here's a link to one of the boxes, but I don't know if it's on 4.55

I would say PS4 is the better choice because it has a bigger variety of games. God of war bundle is probably the best choice right now.

But just so you know Xbox One also has a blueray player (the newer ones actually have a better one then PS4 because they can play 4k bluerays) and you have to pay for online on both systems.

It seems the news you are going off of is from the ps3 and xbox 360 era which is when both those facts were true.

Not sure where you got those 250$ new with a game bundles, since I couldnt find a single one lower than 350$ on any of the three sources you mentioned. Now add on the cost of Live or PSN (50$), youre now at the 400$ mark. Even if they were 250$ (which they arent as of now, maybe when theyre on sale but even then thats a huge stretch) plus the extra 50 for PSN, youre still at the 300$ mark. You could substitute the i3 i chose with a last gen i3 (4150-4170) which run 60-70 on hardwareswap (mobo and ram cost would be the same). You could even ditch the 960 and go for a 950 and but under the price of a console with better performance. Hell, you could go EVEN LOWER and get a 750ti and atleast be on par with a console (and be cheaper). There is no argument now that consoles are cheaper now, but pc's are more cheaper in the long run. When you have cards that will perform just as good as a ps4 for under 80$ (gtx 750ti, hd 7870, r7 370, etc.) and cpus like i3's which run under 100$ used, there is no debate if console or pc is cheaper. I just proved that. The build i posted is not only much more powerful, but its the same price as a console WITHOUT Live or PSN. The argument that you NEED to spend 450-500$ on a pc for decent performance is absurd when cheap and good processors like i3s and cheap good cards like the gtx 750ti, gtx 950, even the newer cards like the rx 460,470,and 480, will keep the price of a budget pc low and at the very least, on par with current consoles. If you just prefer consoles over a pc than thats one thing, but to go around and say that console gaming is still cheaper upfront then pc? Straight up lie.

u/esseff3d · 1 pointr/penguins

It is the Uncharted 4 edition. She got that for me too actually.

u/oorakhhye · 1 pointr/GamePhysics

So the average gamer or their parent has to:

  1. Have the knowledge and ability to collect computer parts and piece it together like "Legos"

  2. Make sure that their motherboards are compatible with the right cpu bundle and chipset. Or maybe they should get a combo? But which one?

  3. Learn the basics of a free operating system on their machine (Linix) (cause paying over $100.00 for Windows will eat into their budget)

Or they can pay 400 bucks and have something ready for them right out of the box plus a game.

The fact that you'd have to spend countless hours for a foundational knowledge base then spend the time putting the parts for the PC together after you've gone out and bought all the parts isn't worth it for console gamers then trouble shoot the damn thing (cause let's face it, maybe once every hundred builds does the thing fire up without a hitch.

And what performance level are you willing to play the game at? Sure, let's forget the 980. I was talking about just myself. Let's go with an older model. Something cheaper. Say a 750ti. That will cost me $120 - $130 on average, but now I've to make sure I'm powering it and my cpu with a enough juice from a PSU that could cost around $60.00 for a decent corsair mid range 550W. Now you've to get ram...hmmm, HDD, mobo/cpu combo... (cause, shit, i need to get it bundled to make my life easier) case, and I'm assuming you'll just jack in some cheap "gaming" headphones to the back of the mii tower where the onboard sound card's audio jack is exposed instead of buying any speakers cause that's just an extra costs (or maybe play with no sound at all) that'll take me over my gaming budget for my kid already. And who cares about a monitor? If I was gonna hookup the Ps4 to the living room tv, might as well do the same for this sweet new rig right? (Good luck having mom allow that).

What's that? Your kid wants an exclusive AAA game? Well crap, now when I'm finished finding out how to install that Loonex or Linez or whatever it's called operating system into this machine successfully, let me get this thing called "steam" downloaded and then hopefully, with a fast enough internet connection, I can download Doom for him within the next 2-3 hours so he can play. Well, let's slap on another $60.00 right there.

What's that? You need a mouse and keyboard? Well shit, there's another $30.00 if you wanna go a cheap yet acceptable route. Man all this price comparing has got me sweating up a storm. Oh yeah, shipping costs? Taxes? Now you're at $530-$600. What if something is DOA? What if I don't get all my parts? I was so ready to start playing Legos!! Now my kid is upset!

Let's put all this shit together now. Oh crap! It won't boot. Well, let me check my physical setup. Did I get the right ram? What clock speed should it be?

Maybe I should have bought a bundled steam machine system from Alienware? Wait! That's still like $230 bucks more than the Ps4! Grrrrrrrr! I just want to buy something for my kids to play!

It might be good to compare the Price of a Slim against the original version. The Slim has no real value except being smaller than the original PS4. The Original One might be even cheaper.

Also you can always check if you don't want to upgrade the Storage yourself through internal or external HDD (External must be between 250GB and 8TB).

So it might be cheaper to buy the original Ps4 with an external HDD that has 2 or 4 TB

https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/help-library/system---hardware/storage---data/ps4--external-hdd-support/

For example:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-4-500GB-Black/dp/B01GVQVQH2/ref=dp_ob_title_vg (slim version)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/External-Devices-Data-Storage/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-Drive/B017KE8OG0/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1498217164&sr=1-6&keywords=external+hard+drive

With that you would have a Ps4 Slim and 4,5 TB (4TB external 500GB internal) storage for just about £350

Here, that's the price of the ps4 on Amazon over the past 2 years. Pretty self explanatory. Also really? I need to give you a source about manufacturing getting cheaper. Don't be like that.
People buy plenty of the same console. Might trade in their old version and buy a new one. It's why so many games get special edition consoles these days, they obviously sell or else they wouldn't be made.

u/mizike · 1 pointr/funny

>Do you have anything to prove that a PC is more expensive in all the cases compared to a console?

Look, I get that PC's are superior to consoles in many ways but they don't win on price and the fact that PC gamers can't admit that is why you guys get made fun of so much.

But here, let's do a simple comparison.

Here's a PS4. It comes with an input device, one AAA game, and costs $268. This is literally the first link on amazon so it's not like I had to do any digging to find this price.

Kindly provide a link to a PC that comes with an input device, an OS, and a AAA game that runs at a comparable resolution.

u/xonjas · 1 pointr/gaming

Console is more expensive too.

270 for the ps4 and 135 for the extra controllers means 405 for the 4 player multiplayer experience.

The switch is 300, the grips are 30, the joycon sets are 80, the pro controller is 70. The setup in the picture (assuming only 1 switch) is 300 + (80 + 30)*2 + 70 for a total of 590. It would 'only' be 510 if everyone but player 1 was using a pro controller.

u/MisterMangu · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Yes we do. Did you see Skyrim? That's not the remastered version, wanna take a guess why that is?
  2. PS4 and XB1 constantly go on sale for 250, and right now you can get it for 260 on amazon. With a game. Switch comes with no games bundled. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484286542&sr=8-1&keywords=PS4
  3. Yes, but they were the strongest/most capable home consoles on the market at the time. The Switch is not, aside it's portable aspect, it has nothing grand to offer for that price. They single handedly alienated both their home console and handheld market.
  4. Yes, 3rd party shovelware. They showed nothing in this presentation to prove me otherwise, because they would be showing the most anticipated releases of 2017, not..this.
  5. Yes, hyperbole on my part but their launch line up is not good. It's just a bunch of mini type games and simple couch co op games. Zelda was the only game showed that people actually..you know..want. Mario is in the holidays and splatoon 2 is in spring.

Cmon now, stop trying to defend this shit.

So I went into this, and read the article, thinking "hey, but PC has a truly massive Indie scene. Surely, the reason PC is so much higher than the other three combined is because it had so many more games reviewed, right?"

Nope, on PS4/XBone/WiiU there were 783 games reviewed, 20 of which were classified as "good exclusives" with a score of 75 or higher. PC had 450 games reviewed and had 46 games classified as "good exclusives."

If we're rounding, just 3% of games released on console this year became "good exclusives" and 10% of games on PC became good exclusives. I'd say this is another feather in our cap, brothers.

When someone says "PC has no good exclusives" we can say definitively, with evidence, that ~10% of PC games reviewed are considered "good exclusives" whereas just 3% of Console games reviewed (and for this to be relevant you'd have to own all 3 consoles) are considered "good exclusives."

To tack onto what I said earlier, for this comparison, where PC absolutely smashes consoles, you'd have to own all three consoles, PS4, XBone, and WiiU concurrently to be able to take advantage of those 20 games that are "good exclusives." PS4 Slim + Xbox One + Wii U = $800 spent. For $800 you could get a pretty bitchin' computer that would outperform the consoles easily, and you might be able to get a VR capable PC with Oculus' new min spec being the 1050 Ti/960 and an i3.

"PC gaming is dead" I say PC gaming is stronger than ever, and this just proves it. Unless we're in some kind of bubble that no one in the industry is seeing, it's not going anywhere any time soon.

Hey man, fellow PC gamer (For over a decade) and I just jumped into owning a PS4 about two weekends ago. I'm not looking for super amazing graphics, but rather games I have been missing out on. So I know how you feel. I've been vegging out on Destiny and I'm having so much fun.

> Pro vs Slim vs Standard. From what I understand via a quick Googling, the Pro's main advantage is 4K support (irrelevant to me) but the framerate isn't that much better and doesn't even apply to some games (true/false?); the Slim is the cheapest option; the Standard is... I don't know. Does standard have any advantage over slim?

Nothing is different from the OG PS4 and the Slim. The Slim is just smaller from what I understand. The Slim does come with the updated Dualshock 4 though. I owned a DS4 for my PC before and the updated DS4 has a light bar on the touchpad and the analog sticks are noticeably clickier when you push them in.

> New vs Used. I know it's going to vary widely by where I get it, but how "safe" is it to get a used PS4? This is assuming that there isn't a bundle with a game that I want, in which case I'd go with that.

I'm more on the side of getting a new system because I prefer new things anyway. I think the only thing you'll run into is wear and tear on the blu-ray drive and the hard drive. The hard drive is easy to replace though and it'll take any 2.5" HDD and even SDDs.

> I'm not a massive graphics enthusiast, but being on PC for so long with a somewhat-above-average rig, I notice low framerate. I don't care so much about, say, 50fps vs 60fps, but I notice 30fps or below and it makes me enjoy the game less. I know it varies based on the game, but overall how are framerates for PS4 games?

Framerates are definitely lower. I never disliked 30 FPS, but it does have that sluggish look to it. That being said, I could honestly care less. Before I owned my 970, I would sometimes lock my framerate to 30 FPS to keep it from feeling jittery from the frame drops. I never really cared about the whole 30 < 60 FPS argument, but 60 FPS is definitely better overall. It's a matter of preference. Now if a game drops below 30, it's really noticeable and there are a few games that do drop from what I understand. Digital Foundry is something I've always watched even before owning a PS4 just because I love seeing framerate differences between platforms. I will say this though: The Uncharted Collection feels and looks so nice at 60 FPS.

> When to buy. I probably missed out on stuff during black friday/cyber monday, but is there anything on the horizon (other than Christmas sales) that I should wait for? Any new bundles or special deals coming soon?

I got a Slim with Uncharted 4 for $269 (On Amazon) two weekends ago and I had it price matched at Best Buy. Amazon currently has it for $249 (The same model I got) right now and it can still be price matched at Best Buy if you want to pick it up locally. Not a bad price if you ask me.

> I'm going to be playing on my computer monitor via HDMI, because I don't have a working TV (all its ports got fried by lightning and so my TV is only good for watching cable - in other words, useless). This setup works fine for my WiiU, I assume it'll be fine for PS4 as well?

If it has HDMI, it will work! Only thing I can think of that can cause problems is HDCP content being restricted, but I don't know what your monitor is and I doubt it will ever be an issue. On another note, my Corsair Void Wireless RGB headset works on the PS4 as well. So if you have a "gaming" headset on your PC, there's a huge chance it will work on your PS4 if it's USB based.

Hope I helped man. I'm really enjoying my PS4 and I'm probably going to buy Stardew Valley for the third time tomorrow (Steam, GoG, and now PSN) lol. It's weird that I haven't touched my PC in a few weeks or finished Pokemon Moon either, but I've been wasting my time away with Destiny. I've been wanting to play it for years and I'm enjoying it so much right now.

The bummer part is, you're going to pay at least 80 bucks for the controller (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B06XG9J26Q/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all)...and to get the bundle, with Farpoint, it's only another 7 bucks (https://www.amazon.com/PSVR-Aim-Controller-Farpoint-Bundle-PlayStation/dp/B06XGPF3CW/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1521818901&sr=1-3&keywords=psvr+aim+controller+farpoint+bundle&dpID=31PSaZLi%252B3L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch). The upside is, Farpoint still sells for 50 bucks, so I'd expect you could easily sell it on Craigslist or something for 30 or 40 bucks and get some of your cash back for the bundle.

30 second budget ryzen

PS4

Same price as a ps4 pro, minor higher price than normal PS4. Plus little things like a windows key you can buy for $20, and whatever compatibility issues might have to swap some other parts out but I literally put that together in 30 seconds, so obviously I'd do a bit more research for a specific build.

All I'm saying is console level PCs are actually quite affordable and provide the option to upgrade if you want in the future.

Edit: swapped Amazon link for an American link cause I think the PC partpicker was in wrong currency but still very similar pricing.

u/longboard1892 · 1 pointr/playstation

It looks like the same bundle is available on Amazon for $449, I have Prime so I'm not sure if that makes a big difference in shipping price, but it looks like there are already much cheaper options out there if you are wanting the Destiny 2 bundle.

u/SecAdept · 1 pointr/PSVR

I ordered this one. I will admit my first impression when I got it was it seemed like semi-cheap Chinese materials for what is a pretty high price. However, I do really like it now. It does fit everything, including a few extras and game discs, very nicely. It is just firm enough to feel protective, and it makes carting everything needed for the VR setup easy. They elastic that holds the PS4 seems a little weak (especially for the heavy pro, but once closed, it's great. This is not a hard bag you could say check at the airport, but it is very useful and convenient to pack up the PS4 and PSVR in the car to take to friends and family. In the end, I'm satisfied with it, and haven't seen any other case that holds BOTH the PS4 and PSVR yet that I would consider better (granted, I haven't done exhaustive searches):

Yes I have, I have the comment history to prove it. All I have to do is scroll down a lot. And you lost, bad. You kept trying, I kept debunking every thing you said. It got to the point where you were repeating points I had already proved false.

>I'm not here saying console is superior. But PC isnt superior either. It's all subjective idiot.

That's ironic, calling me an idiot immediately after writing a dumb ass comment. I found a $320 ps4 slim bundled with spider man for $320, and a 40 inch TV with speakers here to go with it. A total of $479.94. That plus $60-$120 a year (if you bought the ps4 slim on release that's $180-$360 extra onto the total, so 659.94-839.94 total). For that you get a device that cannot be upgraded, has a cpu from 2008, can play games at 1080p 30fps medium low settings, no graphics options, only one input device option, the option to pay money or play offline, is very limited in uses, and only 1800 ish games available 74 ish being exclusive.

Now, let's see what kind of PC we can get for $659.94, shall we? Theres a free version of windows 10 that just puts a water mark on windows products. A little annoying, but not as annoying as all the ads in sonys paid online service.

G4560 for $82.96

Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2PV for $69.99

V-Color Skywalker Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2666MHz for $64.99

WD Blue 1TB PC Hard Drive - 7200 RPM for $43.81

XFX Radeon RX 580 GTS XXX Edition 1386MHz OC+, 8GB GDDR5 for $184.99

Rosewill Dual Fans MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case for $34.99

Thermaltake Smart 500W 80+ White Certified PSU for $39.99

The PC itself is $521.72 and runs circles around the ps4 slim and the ps4 pro. It is more than capable of 1080p ultra settings at 70-80fps on most AAA games. Now for the kbm and monitor.

Logitech Desktop MK120 for $29.87

Sceptre E225W-19203R 22" Ultra Thin 75Hz 1080p LED Monitor for $79.84. Its smaller but you're going to be way closer so it wont matter.

For $28.51 less, you get a PC that runs circles around the ps4 and ps4 pro, is upgradable, can be a work station, is capable of a lot more, is cheaper in the long run, has hundreds of thousands of games available on it, objectively has more high quality exclusives, has a player base 12 times the size, free online play, an entirely free game every week from epic games store (no subscription needed), and much more options.

And since you always like to say "b-b-but can it p-play d-dvds?". I first would like to mention that pcs have the option to download the movies, netflix and other streaming services exist, and if you actually do want to play movies via disk, you can spend the $28 you save on a $20 DVD drive if you want. It's an optional accessory.

Now I think I've successfully proved that you

1, have no idea what you're talking about

And 2, are wrong about it being subjective. Yes, preferring a console is perfectly fine. But objectively a PC is better in almost every way.

u/samuraiwarrior__13 · 1 pointr/theydidthemath

Let's figure out how much 3 carts of PS4's would cost using math:
The Spider-man ps4 box is 16.5 x 13.4 x 3.8 inches in volume. This equals: 840.18 inches cubed. A large generic shopping cart like the ones used at Walmert, have 18,000 Cubic Inches of available space for transportation. To figure out how many PS4's a cart can hold we divide 18,000 by 840.18:

18,000/840.18 = 21.4

So a cart can hold about 21 PS4's. Times this number by 3, because there are 3 carts, and we get 64.2

The deal for the Spider-man PS4 is $199 at Walmert. Here is a pic if the link disappears: https://imgur.com/a/d5balPS

So we times 64.2 by 199:

64.2 * 199 = 12775.8

Which means if she would of bought all three carts she would of spent $12,775.8
However, from reading a comment posed by OP she was only allowed to buy one cart. Which means she spent 1/3 of that or: $4,258.6
This is assuming of course there is no gaps between the PS4's and the carts aren't overflowing. However, from the pic we see the carts are overflowing somewhat and there probability is some gaps. So these 2 factors most likely cancel eachother out. If I did any math wrong, please correct me.

u/Drum_Stick_Ninja · 1 pointr/consolemasterrace

Show me your full list or your words mean nothing. Don't forget to match PS4's capabilities in all ways. The PS4 even comes with a $60 controller ($20 kbm is sufficient) and $50 3D blu ray player + wifi and lots of other things your list won't have.

  • Also by the way. My PC compliments my PS4 as my home media server. lol you kids touting your superior PC don't even have a disk drive or utilize it to it's capabilities.

  • Also it's $300 for a 1TB PS4 with $60 GOTY Spiderman

Oh and that's a single player gamer. But if you want the highly valuable PS+ subscription I do recommend it. Looking at averaging 4 - PS4 games a month.

No it isn't. A brand new PS3 is literally 5 dollars cheaper than a new PS4. No one is letting a used PS4 go for $150 unless they're desperate, which isn't the norm.

PS3: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-500-GB-System/dp/B009DL2TBA/ref=lp_14210711_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1498080279&sr=1-1

And seriously don't act like PS4 was $250 when it was new. They cut the price in half within less than 3.5 years, that's horrible as far as a loss goes for Sony. Both consoles were $500 new. You could build a better PC in 2013 for $500, and you can build a better PC now for $250, as well as $500.

Furthermore, stop acting like these consoles are sold at the price paid for the components. They aren't. The alleged cost to build an Xbox One was $471, which is total bullshit. If true, it means the components in these consoles are total trash or were supplied at a massive discount. A more accurate comparison would be "Build a comparable PC for $800 - $1000 and then just cut that price in half".

I just easily threw together an AMD system with better parts for $430, hell I could swap out the RX560 for a 1060 and it would still be under $500.

u/Diablosword · 0 pointsr/witcher

Yeah you can get a new PS4 for $259 with a great game included. Aside from GPU shortage, you point out that PCs have uses other than gaming, but so do consoles. They're simple, multi-purpose, media centers, and much much user friendly. I have a gaming PC and a PS4, but I use the PS4 more because it's just more convenient for most things. If you're going to game casually, just get a console. A $250 PC may perform on par, but for most people it's just not worth it. If you want a gaming PC, spend more than $250.

u/itrolledyougood · 0 pointsr/gaming

Your math doesn't quite add up there buddy but sure, keep pulling numbers out of your ass.

u/WATCH_DOGS_SUCKS · -3 pointsr/beatsaber

A PS4 Pro is $400 brand new, and a slim is $300. Slim bundles (including a game) are usually $250.

Yes, a Bundle is cheaper than the base unit, which is a bit of a trend with PlayStation. In fact, you can pick up a VR starter bundle (including the headset, camera, move controllers, and a game) right now for less than $300. Meaning, you could have a PS4+Controller, a full PSVR kit, and two games for less than $600. This is all with NEW parts, so buying used could actually get you all of that for less than a single brand-new Pro.

Consoles are only as expensive as people make them to be. Just like with PC’s, if you know what you’re doing, you can save a lot of money.

Plus, the belief that PS4 games are expensive tends to be an unfounded stigma. Right now, Beat Saber is $30 on PSN... and $30 on Steam. Also keep in mind that things like Summer Sales and Black Friday sales apply to both Steam AND PSN.

Now sure, you still need to pay for PS+ to play online, but A: you get two games per month for free, B: if you do the $60/year plan that only comes to about $5/month, and C: you get even bigger discounts with it than standard. PS+ can save you more money with it than what you may pay without it.

So again. For some people, playing on a console is what they can afford, and no one should be telling them that they “made the wrong choice.”
