This is the correct answer! I just sent my hdmi switch back and got this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01A89OEUY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_26lrybBM10GR3
Ps4, firetv and Dvr are all working perfectly in 5.1 now with my old Panasonic plasma. Sounds awesome!

No problem! It's a bit of a bummer, and I'm still not sure I really understand why there's lag from some devices but not others. With the Playbar connected to the TV there was no problem with lag from my satellite TV box, but my Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS3 all showed lag when they were set to Dolby Digital.

I use the old version of this device and it works well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portta-APET0401T-Toslink-Digital-Optical/dp/B01A89OEUY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481988248&sr=8-2&keywords=optical+switch

First, I'd check to see if you get lag when you plug the optical from the Playbar directly into the Xbox One, though, just to make sure that it's your TV which is introducing the lag.

I wonder if you could get some kind of audio switch/splitter device (I have no idea if these exist, but I would assume that they do).

That way, you can plug your chromecast into your TV for the video, then have the audio output from the TV directed to your computer speakers (through the switch).

You'd just have to flip the input on the splitter/switch device from 'computer' to 'TV'.

Edit: Something like this maybe:

It has four inputs, so you can have both your TV and your computer share the same set of speakers. It even comes with a remote to switch the audio source.

Portta 4 Port 4x1...

I have this one and it has an IR sensor with remote. I program it into my Harmony remote and works as expected.
