It's the Legend of Zelda 3DS game system holder. The slots he's using were to hold 2 game cartridges, and the ones next to them are Stylus holders. The back zips open to drop in the 3DS system. Looks like his is missing the flap holder stitched on.

I personally have that same case and N3DS XL, I got the Legend of Zelda leather pouch and it fits like a dream!

I have the Zelda pouch.. good for protection but not real rugged, should be ok for in your backpack. Zipper enclosure for the unit with the flap over. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014MR3Q0W/

As far as game cases, nothing better than the Nintendo club 3ds cases, can find them on the bay.

If you want it on your side like a holster, I found that the Zelda 3ds Pouch can hold a DMG rather well... they're like 12 bucks at walmart

...so the 3DS itself doesn't have a battery modification (other than wireless charging), it's just a super convenient place to safely park my 3DS, and leave it to charge until I take it out next.

Wireless charging like this would have been perfect, but the amount of heat generated made me re-think the entire plan.

I'm kinda hoping my switch fits in the Adventurer's pouch that I already have for my 3ds... if not, then I'll get myself another case down the track... I don't really think I'll be taking my switch too far from my house all that often...

Considering it's more or less and inch bigger than the vita, it should fit into that Zelda 3DS case pretty nicely since it fits both my vita and n3dsxl with ease,

Not sure if this is exactly what you'd want, but I found this awhile ago when I was buying mine and it looks a little like your Vita one. The one I personally use is this since it came with styluses and its small enough that I can put my 3ds in it and throw it in my bag without worrying about it, but idk if you like Zelda.
