There are journals that have questions about life and your childhood, and what are you doing. I got one for my grandma when I was 12ish? I forgot about it until she died about 10 years ago and I found it. She had filled about half of it in. It was fun. Questions like, "What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?" "Tell me a story about when you got in trouble at school". I forget the name of the journal, but I found this:

I kind of want to do that for my kids now.
EDIT to add: I'm sure there is a dad one if you're a dad :)
I was indecisive so got As You Grow - which looked like more keepsake book, The Baby Book - think this one is a bit more fun possibly (I really enjoyed the Belly Book), and Q&A a Day for Moms. The first and third book you can get at Target online and use the 15% off registry completion discount on them.
I think this would be a sweet gift to add to a care package
