See r/cableporn for inspiration. I personally like to drill into the wall and run cables through, but that isn't for everyone. Either screw the surge protector into the underside of the desk, or use double sided tape to hold it there. A tactic I have used well in the past is to bundle wires together and wrap them in electric tape. I coil them loosely together about a foot long, then tightly wind the tape around them. It will look roughly like a golf club grip if you're doing it right. Then stick some velcro tape to a flat spot and the other side of the velcro to your desk. It's not fantastic, but you won't be able to see it from a standing position.
Another more expensive option would be to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some of their cable traces. They fit together like legos, and should be fairly self explanatory.
Don't beat yourself up. Everything takes time. You'll get there.
(just don't bring the pink lights with you, go with some warm bulbs if you have to)
