But no. It's unnecessary.
May I recommend the Rösle garlic press as it is the best and by far the easiest to clean!
Zyliss Garlic Presses are nice.
I got a Rosle as a gift from a friend and love it more than the Zyliss. Cleaning it is super easy!
I also peel all my garlic before pressing (as I scrape the remains into the pan most of the time) and I feel the "Self-peeling" ones (like my wife's Pampered Chief one) waste so much garlic.
