I would go SSD - safer to travel with. 2TB seems best. You can also get an 860 EVO for $230 and get an enclosure but I think that’s portable one I linked to would suffice.
Edit: if you need more than 2TB, you would want to switch back to disk as it’s cheaper and I can find a good one but SSD is best if you can survive with 2 TB.
