Just make some sticks. Obviously they won't be original, but you can make really nice joysticks for pretty cheap that will be absolutely bulletproof and use top quality parts. Making sticks for NeoGeo are even easier, because it's all just direct wiring. Get the NeoGeo DB-15 pinout, connect the right wire to each button and make a big loop for ground and your done.

If you want something really excellent, I highly suggest this route:

  1. $25 Sanwa JLF joystick They are excellent quality nice clicky joysticks that don't require much room for mounting, come with square gates, I swapped mine for octogates.

  2. $15 6-pack Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons Great buttons used in all japanese arcade cabinets, low space requirements and nice and sensitive, and look/feel like the original buttons on NeoGeo AES sticks.

  3. An enclosure. You can buy a 30mm hole saw and mount these in literally any box imaginable, but if you want them to look extra swanky, I highly recommend Hammond MFG electrical enclosures. They make some really nice ones with wood side panels. 1444-22CWW is a 10"x8"x2" aluminum box with walnut end panels, it's pricey, but it will make a practically indestructible professional looking joystick with minimal effort. They make a pricier HWCHAS1310BK that's 13"x10"x3" with solid walnut sides all around and a flush aluminum top plate that will make a sturdy joystick that will rival any stick you can buy.

The 13" enclosure also has enough room to include more buttons if you want to make your sticks work on things other than NeoGeo. You can pretty easily buy a little joystick USB encoder board and wire up a USB output alongside the NeoGeo DB-15 port which makes the stick work on PS3/PS4 Windows etc. That's what I did with mine. I used the 1456PH1WHCWW enclosure, which I realize is actually cheaper than those other two, (sorry!) because I wanted the slanted surface and enough room for 8 buttons. The top row of 4 colored buttons plus Start/Select are wired to the DB-15 port for NeoGeo, where as all 8 buttons are wired for USB, so I can use these sticks on PS3, Windows, Retropi etc. Scroll down a bit Here to see my sticks. I used a sheet of plexi over the top of the stick so I could sandwich some printed art in there. I secured the corners of the plexi with some nice polished stainless hex key bolts.

Yes, if you buy one of these enclosures you'll put yourself over ~$100 per stick, but you have awesome nice new bullet proof sticks that will last forever. If you hole saw the top of a an old gutted VCR from the trash, it will cost you way less. There are plenty of cheaper plastic enclosures out there you can buy for way less, so look around. I've seen joysticks made out of some really goofy things. Just buy the joystick you want to use first, because you need to be able to measure how deep it is when mounted as you will need enough room inside your enclosure. You can also test fit everything on a cardboard box, which is kinda hilarious.
