Not bluetooth, but I love, love, love these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TLT10I/

The best part is they work with everything on your TV, whereas a bluetooth headset would only work with your Apple TV. They sound great (better than bluetooth, to my ears), are super comfy, and you can also find them in an open-backed variety if you prefer.

I've used mine daily for over two years, and they've held up very well.

TBH, if he is passionate about sound then dont get designed-for-gaming headsets like the Astros. He doesn't need to be an audiophile or anything, but unless he doesn't really mind about sound quality as long as its good enough, I recommend getting some Sennheisers. They have a bunch of wireless models, and these kinds of brands (Sennheisers, Audio-Technicas, AKG acoustics) are the best.

If voice communication is needed, you can add a 15-20$ clip-on mic that connects to the controller (unlike the headphone wireless base which would connect to the console via optical cable)

EDIT: Something like this

I'm getting X1 and PS4 and there is a sneaky awesome detail with both systems that people are neglecting.

PS4-You can (at least in theory) plug a mic into the controller and use any 3rd party surround headset. I'm guessing some 3rd party makes a mic that you can plug into 3.5mm plug. Then you just select voice to be played through speakers (as you can on PS3) and voila, you have a headset. Alternatively you could use the PS4's Eye microphone but I don't intend on buying that (two cameras is too much, hell I'm not even sure I want the Kinect so I sure as hell don't want a Kinect plus Eye).

Xbox One-You can use the Kinect for microphone and use any 3rd party surround headset.

This is awesome for a few reasons.

  1. I can use the same headset for both machines. I don't need to buy two.

  2. My headset will also work with anything else I want to plug it into, this gen and next gen and last gen. Anything.

  3. You get more bang for your buck just getting a standard pair of cans compared with a dedicated gaming headset.

Here is one option. But there are a ton of them out there.

    http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Digital-Wireless-Headphone-Surround/dp/B002TLT10I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382571910&sr=8-2&keywords=surround+headset+wireless

But you wanted sub $100. There aren't very good wireless options for that. If you have a receiver, then you can use the analog output of the receiver to go into some cheaper sets. Or you can use a corded pair of headphones. A good wireless set will have optical audio input that you can take from the PS4 into the transmitter base. Otherwise you could look for a pair used online to get a $200 set for $100 or alternatively set a techbargains.com alert and wait.

I hope that helps. I realize you may not care about using the headset for multiple systems but I just wanted to throw out the fact that you don't absolutely have to get a PS4 branded set this time around due to how they set up the system. Same goes for X1. And if you even have an inkling that you might eventually get an X1 or WiiU or Steam box you can't argue that it wouldn't be nice to use one headset for them all.

I use these for TV and plan on using them with the Vive once I get it: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-RS-170-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B002TLT10I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458250673&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+rs+170

Looks like they have released newer models (equivalent to this would be 175 I think).

Wireless is going to be your biggest limitation. Why does it need to be wireless? Bluetooth wireless or base station at the house wireless?

How about the Sennheiser RS 170

u/Catblepus · 2 pointsr/headphones

I wouldn't recommend wireless because of the worse sound quality. If that doesn't bother you and you'd rather get convenience rather than quality, you could try those . Knowing that it is a pain in the ass to get headphones in Germany it's actually quite a pleasure to see them cheaper here than in the US with 250$. If you'd go for wired that's a very competitive price range IMO and I'd go for ath m50, shure shr840, fidelio l1 or hd598 depending on if you need isolation.

May I recommend these headphones.

They are some of the most comfortable headphones I've worn.

Thinking about getting these for home entertainment purposes or these for music/gaming (read: TagPro) purposes.

Any experience with Sennheiser or Audio Technica products? I've never owned anything from either company but I know they are considered pretty top notch in terms of audio products.

Also, don't make me bribe you for the Otis Redding song!

I hooked a pair of these bad boys up to my receiver and I don't care what the audiophiles say, they are freaking awesome. I prefer them over my surround sound system 95% of the time (exception being when I can truly crank up the system). Sound quality is great, no static or any other issues.

  • Budget - Not more than 150€.
  • Source - My TV.
  • Requirements for Isolation - I will mostly use them at night when watching TV. They shouldn't wake everyone in the flat when there are loud explosions.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear, wireless.
  • Preferred tonal balance - Whatever fits best for movies.
  • Past headphones - I'm using the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 OHM for music/gaming. They fit awesomely and sound very good.
  • Preferred Music - I wont be listening to music with those.

If you live outside of the US, please also provide:

  • Location - I'm shopping in Germany.

I took a look at the Sennheiser RS 170, are they comfy? How is the sound? I know that I have to pay a premium for wireless, but if I don't get wireless headphones, I don't need to get new headphones at all. The main reason why I have an eye on those is this feature: They also feature Automatic Level Control, which compensates for variances in the volume of TV programs and enhances speech intelligibility.. Basically the reason why I want headphones to watch TV.

Budget

My goal is keep things under $200 but that's not a hard limit.

Source

  • Plugged into my guitar amp so I can play at night in my apartment.
  • Plugged into my Samsung Note 5 while traveling.

    Requirements for Isolation

Isolation is important since I'll be using these on planes.

    Preferred Type of Headphone

Either full size or on ear would be preferable. In ears always get uncomfortable after using them for a while.

    Preferred tonal balance

I prefer a more natural balanced tonal range overall although if the bass has some extra kick that works for me as long as it's a nice tight bass and not too sloppy.

    Past headphones

I haven't had a nice pair of headphones for over a decade and those were some Bose headphones I got when I worked there in high school.

    Preferred Music

I'll mostly be using these headphones to play rock and blues on the guitar. When traveling they would be used to play Spotify on my phone. Below are some of the artists/genres I listen to a lot.

  • Live Jam Music: Phish/Grateful Dead
  • Hip-Hop: Brother Ali, Atmosphere, Cunninglynguists
  • Electronic: Gramatik, Pretty Lights
  • Soul/Funk: James Brown, Al Green, Otis Redding
  • Bluegrass: Leftover Salmon, Brothers Comatose

    What am I looking for?

I would basically like to get a decent pair of wireless headphones to play guitar with without worrying about a chord getting in my way. I have a decent appreciation of sound quality but I'm definitely not an audiophile.

Since I would use them on planes having some noise canceling qualities would be nice but if that feature proves to be too expensive I could live without it. I travel from San Francisco to the East Coast and Europe a few times a year.

These options look solid but not sure if it's worth it to upgrade from the RS-165 to the RS-170. Maybe the 160?

If you're going to buy a piece of wireless gear, make sure that you get a good bit of hardware and nothing nasty and cheap. I wouldn't go for anything that is branded by a game, that probably adds to the price much more than it should.

I've got a pair of Sennheiser headphones that have lasted me for 1 1/2 years without any issues. Yeah they've run out, but that's only because I was a retard and forgot to charge it up each time that I'm away from my keyboard.
(Note: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-RS-170-Wireless-Headphone/dp/B002TLT10I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322420853&sr=8-1) It was pricey, but completely worth it for the sound quality and the need to never change batteries :D
