Is there a friend/family member close by to monitor a camera every week or so? If so a trail cam would answer a lot of questions with a few weeks of pics. You would just need someone to swap out a SD card and view what happened in the last days or weeks on a laptop. They will not trigger through a window so they need to be mounted outside. Once you set it for pics or video there is nothing else to fool with.
I use this one to monitor my garden and it works great. Takes thousands of pics on a set of AA batteries and saves either pics or vids on a SD card. Good night vision. Good enough to show police.

Paranoia is a symptom of Dementia/Alzheimer's. A few weeks of time stamped pics or vids would be helpful in sorting things out with your dad. Tough situation either way.
