Used Book in Good Condition
If you're taking the improv route, you may want to try The Second City Almanac of Improvisation or the Upright Citizens Brigade Comedy Improvisation Manual. Both really great improv 'guides'.
If your friend hasn't read Truth in Comedy, that's a serious must for any comedic performer.

The best way, in my opinion, to learn more about it is to just do it! Based on your post history, looks like you're in NYC? I personally recommend either the Magnet or UCB. (I've taken classes at both. There's a lot more improv in NYC but I haven't taken classes at them yet!)
