They’re peel and stick tiles I think. Thick plastic stickers, basically.
Edit: Upon closer inspection, it looks like she routed out a shallow impression for the tiles to sit in, and possibly sealed it all afterwards with some polyurethane or something. If so, it should be pretty durable.
I have some in my bathroom (regular tile/grout in an RV will crack from vibration) and I imagine the edges of it on the countertop will be difficult to clean properly, especially on a porous surface like wood, and may begin to lift after the adhesive on the edges is degraded by dirt/friction/moisture/cleaning products. Depending how the wood is finished/sealed, it may lift a lot sooner. If it does, they can just take a utility knife and cut it at the seam between the wall/countertop. Might take some solvent to fully remove the adhesive from the wood, though, which will likely damage the finish.My first thought when I saw it was that they weren’t sure about cutting the sheet of tiles, so they just kept pressing it down onto the counter. So yeah, unique looking, but I anticipate issues after some use.Here you go.
