Dummy rounds that look a lot like loaded ammunition are an accident waiting to happen.

As others have said, snap caps are not strictly necessary, but if you'd feel better using them (as I do), you want something like this:

Dummy rounds, such as these.

here is a fun game, go the range with a buddy of yours. now each of you take a mag, some ammo, and a few snap caps. Load the mag with mostly real ammo, but with a couple snap caps randomly in between. now switch mags and shoot. what will happen is when you run into a snap cap you will get to see your flinch in all of its glory since your body is expecting a live round.

Your list is fairly complete to me. Here are a few thoughts:

  • You might consider adding ear plugs under the ear muffs, especially if you go to an indoor range.

  • A bore snake, or similar tool, is very useful for quickly cleaning the barrel.

  • If you plan to do any dry fire practice, you'll need snap caps.

  • Otherwise, consider possible training classes?

  • Eventually you'll want additional magazines.

when I watched the gif, I thought "Why are they grinding the match head with a dummy bullet" but when I watched it on Youtube and paused it I could tell it was a tool of some sort.
