Leatherman Wingman (and I think the sidekick) have spring-loaded pliers, if that's a big deal for you.
I'd agree that the Wave is probably the most well-rounded tool out there, but if the meaty pliers aren't a dealbreaker for you I would actually look at Victorinox. Consider for example the cybertool, more appropriate for precision electronics work (which I assume you mean when you say IT work), better build quality (yes, including the Leathermans, fight me), costs less than the listed tools.
maybe a Victorinox CyberTool would be a good option for you. Its got a set of interchangeable drivers, Scissors, a small but capable set of pliers, bottle opener, 2x knife(1x small knife, 1x larger knife), a tin opener and a cork screw. Along with a precision screw driver that sits in the cork screw and a hidden straight pin. And if your worries about the UK law, all the blades are of legal lengh and slip joint/non locking so completely legal. I am also from the UK and have one of these for out of work.Its a great tool.
