You might as well save up some cash and get a used Rift from Craigslist in a few months, after the Rift S and Valve Index hit the market and people upgrade.

I've tried doing what you are; The best you can get is with these trackers, which cost only marginally less than a used Rift kit. They don't work very well:

Understand that your phone screen is likely limited to 60fps, and your VR framerate is solely dependent on the speed of your WiFi (unless you can get USB tethering working). I got a lot of motion sickness when the fps drops below 60, which was always.

There are some solutions out there, here is one called Nolo, I have no idea how well it works, but it can be used with a gear or a Go.

If you have a PC and some PS Move controllers you can install Riftcat and use the PS Move Service to do roomscale tracking.

Another option is using a Nolo VR kit to link with your PC. You can get them on Amazon.
