Wouldn't it make sense to read the Durotan Novel before the movie since its an actual prequel to the movie?
Rise of the Horde is not considered canon for the movie lore so it wouldn't do much to help prepare people for it while Durotan (the novel) ends and the movie starts shortly after that.
If I may ask, after doing a little bit of searching, i feel like a good place to start would actually be from either Warcraft chronicle volume 1 OR Warcraft: Durotan. However, I feel that the Chronicle volume one could be better. Would you happen to know which is better?

Doesn't matter when you read them really, but OP could mean the Movie Novelisation, rather than the Durotan prequel to which you refer.
