This is an absolutely wonderful book that shows what school lunch is like all over the world. It's available in many public libraries if you don't want to buy it. My daughter and I loved reading it and seeing how the rest of the world's children ate.
I've worked for 15+ years in various school systems in NJ (since fled the state and the [shudder] schools...) and the school lunch was always disgusting except for in one all girls private school in Summit with a tuition more than my mortgage. It's all food that's been precooked that only needs to be heated up to save on costs (ex. labor--not the actual food).
