Shaming people isn’t the best way to get them to act a certain way, so that was a mistake on the waitress. I ask people if they want a straw and if they say no I say, “Save the turtles!” which elicits a positive response. Had she gone about it differently she could have made you feel good instead of bad.
However, you responded immaturely imo. Sounds like you’re not innocent either. And she does have a point, we need to cut back on plastic waste. Just buy a reusable straw and carry it with you.

I use these silicon straws they are incredibly handy and dont take gross like another commentor said. They also come with a handy cleaning brush and since they are silicon they can easily be sanitized in boiling water.
