I have a memory of a golden fish too. one of the reasons I decided to learn a language is to fix my brain cells.

I found about the mnemonics and I followed RTK method the lazy way ( kanji--> keyword) and found it a blast. memorized all the kanji became easy and I finished all the 2200 kanji over the course of 3 and a half month ( 25 kanji a day ). The hard part was consistency but I made it in the end. now learning vocabulary became much much easier. Honestly very worth it.

There is another methods RTK, such wanikani, Kanji Damage and others, find what works for you.

but if you are interested in RTK, this blog helped me to set up my RTK journey

and I recommend this book:

I have no finished it yet, but it did helped me with the mnemonics.

Good luck

Do you read books? I try to read one or two books every year. This one helps verify things about remembrance

Memory is something I'm very interested in. While you can't train yourself to have a photographic memory (I agree with WBruce) you can train your memory to do some very impressive feats, many of which are applicable to everyday life. If you are still in school/college/university then congratulations, your life just got a LOT easier.

I can tell you for a fact I can memorise a deck of cards in under two minutes, including the numeric position of every specific card, I can memorise mobile phone numbers in a few seconds and recite them backwards, along with people's names, random trivia, poetry, etc.

I suggest some reading

Learn the fundamental principles and practice. Memory is a skill that you cultivate, it used to be a highly respected skill until pen, paper and books became so cheap. I still think it's a valuable skill today, and it shows you're a grown man (or woman) who doesn't need expensive gadgets to organise his (or her) life.
