You can get something like this that will probably keep you pretty warm, but it can't be that great for your battery life.

You can also just get a blanket to drape over your upper body and lap leaving your hands and legs free to operate the car.

When was the last time a cooling system flush was done? What does your coolant fill look like? Did someone stop-leak the system due to a bad head gasket? I don't like the Taurus cooling system, it's brittle and servicing it can become a nightmare quick.
