Some tips:

  • Fill it with sand (not water). This will make it much more stable.

  • Put a rubber mat under it to keep it from sliding. I use a yoga mat.

Having said that, it's definitely no a substitute for a heavy bag. It doesn't move around, and you really can't hit it with anywhere near full power without knocking it over (which will damage the plastic base).

It is, however, good for working on your technique and speed. I have a Century BOB and I find it very useful to practice technique and precision strikes as well as clinch move.

I'm looking one for the whole class for live rounds and alternating training rounds.

The lights look a little weird.
maybe something like this?

Was hoping someone would have a link to something they've used. Amazon reviews are a bit much to navigate and its hard to distinguish the genuine ones.

The fact that you loose it is an absolute myth. If that were true closing one eye would destroy your ability to function, as you say, there are other cues. You know that gimmick where you have a headband with a string that has a tennis ball at the end? It's difficult with both eyes, without dept perception it wouldn't even be remotely possible, yet I've just tried and there's barely a difference apart from limited field of view.
