These defy the purpose of practicing with a hanging chain. The idea is that if you're able to focus on the chain and hit it when you practice putting, then when you get out on the course and it's time to lay in a put, you'll feel more confident hitting a larger target.

Hands down, the [DGA Mach Lite] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015O6QSA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sUm7BbDBPYWB2) takes the cake. I’ve had mine for 4 years and it gets used almost every day. I’ve taken it to countless putting, indoor, outdoor, whatever type of leagues/rounds. Still in great condition. Also not that loud for practicing at night while my wife/kids are sleeping.

I bought a Disc Golf basket for my friend that was visiting. He lives out of state, and once a year he'll come down after visiting family for the holidays. Usually around the first couple weeks of January.

I bought a basket for myself in December and he mentioned he was going to try and save for a few months and hopefully buy one in the summer. I make pretty good money working in IT so I bought him one too.

He's back home now and sends me pics of it in the snow in his backyard super happy. It's always a good feeling to make someone feel happy.

That there is a Lightning db5.

Great basket.

u/aMiracleAtJordanHare · 4 pointsr/discgolf

DGA Mach Lite is the best collapsible basket, imho. It's not the cheapest, but its catching is the most similar to permanent baskets.

I also have an Innova DISCatcher Traveler and it's not good by comparison. Odd pentagon-shaped basket, fewer chains than DGA's, the chains don't slide at the top like DGA's do, and overall its materials just feel cheaper. (Probably because it is cheaper, but I'd still spring for the DGA if you want something that feels like a "real" basket.)

Edit - One downside to the DGA is the weight. Because so much metal is used it would not be comfortable to walk very far with. If you're hiking around with a basket I'd consider something lighter.

For under 200$ and lookin for portable get a DG Mach lite

I've ordered a couple Pacific Outdoors practice targets. Main advantages are the low cost ($100) relative to other baskets and they're closer to PDGA dimensions than a lot of other practice baskets. Downside is they only come in on color (red), only have one set of chains and while they are portable they're completely metal so more difficult to move around than something like a Skillshot. You can find it on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Pacific-Outdoors-Disc-Golf-Goal/dp/B000ASG0DI/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1450128100&sr=1-1&keywords=pacific+outdoors+disc+golf+goal

u/Dukefan86 · 3 pointsr/discgolf

You can get Insteps for $100 or less or any variation of a portable basket for just over a hundred... I have a skill shot and though its smaller than a regular basket after practicing 35 footers on that I feel like I could park a bus in a regular basket.

  • Bug spray

  • towel that clips onto his bag
  • socks that let your feet breathe but keep your ankles protected
  • make him a shirt that says something about disc golf
  • a new mini disc is always fun
  • if he doesn't have a basket at home, this link and this link are good places to start

Or the next time you two are out on a date, ask him to show you some discs at a sporting goods store that he has his eye on. Or try these websites:

  • Marshall Street
  • Gotta Go Gotta Throw
  • Disc Golf World
  • Innova
  • Flywood Discs

Marshall Street is where you're going to get the most bang for your buck. I added Flywood there on the end because that's one of my dream discs to own, just because the idea of a wooden frisbee gives me shivers and tingles.

I picked this one up that was recently linked in this sub. Quite impressed with it. Same construction as the MVP / Axiom, just unbranded. ~99$ + 5% discount you can apply. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SSHXYTX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Get a basket and practice. Start close and move out as you make them, closer as you miss them. As long as you have solid fundamentals, it's just a confidence thing and you need to get your mojo back.

Edit: I got this basket a few weeks ago, it's cheap and 'close enough' to the real thing for me to notice improvement already.

u/LabRatsAteMyHomework · 2 pointsr/discgolf

I have the [Mach Lite] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015O6QSA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RDlaCbCXRG8PK) and it's so great. I can fold it up and take it with me for practice very easily. It was a bit pricier than I had intended, but I have zero regrets. Being able to fold it up compared to most rigid frame baskets is a huge plus. It's sturdy as hell and I can see it lasting for a long time since I always keep it stored in the folded configuration. Seriously give this a thought.

IMO this is the best fabric basket available.

u/Deadpressed · 2 pointsr/discgolf

I keep the blue one in my car (actually threw on my lunch break for the first time just a bit ago), other is portable but requires more space and few more steps to assemble. I keep the red one assembled out back, and hide it in the trees when I'm done. Innova is s more narrow shot, the chains on The Pacific Outdoors' unit below throws discs out every once in a while, but is great for practice.

u/wbgraphic · 2 pointsr/DIY

It's a 12v DC input, so it would just be a matter of finding a matching plug (which appears to be a common type) and connecting it to a 12v battery or battery pack. The amp-hours rating of the battery will determine how long it will run the LED strip.

u/apopmachine · 2 pointsr/discgolf

Don't forget to mention how cheap it is. A basket is like $250 including the theft-proof lock system. You only need a few baskets to make a satisfying course. Not even 9, but people might get mad at me for saying that because they be like "nah man you need at least a half course" I found just three baskets to be enough in a triangle formation. Of course it would be easy to jam pack the course in that condition. I'm just listing some ideas that may be helpful to consider. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HXM48Y2/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?qid=1426781635&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=disc+golf+basket

My Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is this disc golf goal

I want it because I would love to set up disc golf in my back yard or when I want to go out with friends.

If I never got it I would not be surprised. Its really just a fun item with no real requirement of ownership.

Thanks for the fun contest :)

u/ExcuseMyTriceratops · 2 pointsr/discgolf

I've got this in my backyard. I don't particularly need it to be super portable - I prefer it stand up to weather. For $100 shipped, I'd say it's a steal.

u/Nthayer1408 · 2 pointsr/discgolf

Not sure if this is the same one but this is on Amazon for $82 currently.

I have a Lightning DB5 that I keep in the backyard year-round.

u/Ihearteveryone · 1 pointr/discgolf

I really like the DGA Mach Lite I have seen it for as cheap as 125. It is really easy to take where ever you want and does a good job of holding in discs.

u/thebenolivas · 1 pointr/somethingimade

Haha thanks! It's pretty simple inside - I used this amp and this battery to power the speakers, which were basically car speakers. I probably could've saved some money by being a bit more savvy with what I bought, but it was a fun project.

u/chefkeithallen · 1 pointr/discgolf

They are showing pictures of two different baskets. As each basket has different chain configurations. One just has 24 outer chains, while the other has a set of inner chains.

The one with inner chains, has heavier/beefier chains. Looks identical to an MVP Black Hole Pro. They retail for about $140.

The basket with just the outer chains look like the baskets sold under the name Yaheetech. They retail at Amazon for about $100 each.

I'm not sure I'd order 10 or more of these baskets directly from China. For 10 baskets, I'd expect shipping to cost $300 to $500, more than what the baskets are worth. Maybe if I owned an import business, where I had my own shipping containers being shipped regularly. Maybe then it would be worth the hassle and the wait.

Anyways, you could probably get the Yaheetech on sale for about $85. Black Hole Pros are sometimes on sale for about $120. These aren't very heavy duty baskets though, and probably won't do well, if you keep them outside in the elements. Guess that's why they are considered portable.

If you search and asked around locally, maybe you could find some good USED baskets. It just matters where you are located. If it's a popular disc golf area, you may be in luck, as some courses get new baskets every 10 years or so, and they sell the old used ones for a nice discount.

u/Mostrodamus · 1 pointr/discgolf

I was in the same dilemma and after long debate on which one I should buy I ended up going with the Innova Discatcher Traveler for $122 on Amazon and don't regret it for a second.

The quality is so much better than the Franklin Sports and it has real chains. Folds up nicely and includes a carrier bag and all accessories needed to set it up. Spend a little more, you won't regret it.

Also calling the disc a frisbee is considered a totally noob thing. But like wook said you are aiming for a basket with chains

Got both of them as an early birthday gift from my GF so not entirely sure where she got them from. Here's some Amazon links though

I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Innova-Champion-Discs-DISCatcher-Traveler/dp/B008RU1UV8/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=innova+disc+golf+basket&qid=1566831074&s=gateway&sr=8-4

It doesn't catch as well as a normal basket but it's fairly obvious when you would have nailed a put on a normal basket and when you wouldn't have.

I like it because it folds up into just bigger than a camping chair. I like to take it camping or on family vacations where there is a lot of space so it fits easily into my van.

u/1Man1Machine · 1 pointr/discgolf

I've had the Discraft Chainstar Lite for about a year now and I love it. I wrapped some pipe insulation around the center pole to make it a lot quieter.

u/Taidaishar · 1 pointr/discgolf

Maybe this is worse than a mediocre basket, but here's a possibility that I've been looking at for backyard putting.

This is the one I'm gonna buy.

u/CupBeEmpty · 1 pointr/AskAnAmerican

It is all over Northern New England. I'd say there are about 8 courses within an hour of me and two I would consider to be "in" my town (one is just outside but really close). My neighbors actually have one of these in their back yard for practice.

I played Ultimate in college so we overlapped a fair amount with disc golf players, so maybe I am just more aware of it than other people. It is a wildly popular sport but plenty of people up here play it.

u/internetbear8 · 1 pointr/discgolf

The gaps between chains are too big but it's a good target and it's pretty cheap. It has survived being in my backyard for over a year with minimal rust.
