No comments yet? In Oct of 2018 I upgraded from a GoPro Hero 3+ to a micro 4/3 mirrorless system. I used the old GoPro rig for like 50-70 dives.

Here's a pics of my rig. I'd like to think mine is the upper range of cheap. The camera I bought for diving but also rock climbing and backpacking so it couldn't be heavy and I wanted weather sealing. I bought it when Olympus was having a camera/kit lens/dive housing combo for $1400 and sold the housing for half the combo cost because I couldn't afford third party ports for the lens I wanted.

Unfortunately I just (on Friday) got back from a dive trip in Maui where one of my dive lights crapped out and a day later the other fell off the locline sometime during kick out. So now I really have an excuse to upgrade to strobes. My photos have slowly gotten better; here's my photo album, I suggest starting from the bottom because they're in chronological order.

  1. A single strobe is much better than two lights, unless you intend to use them as video lights.

  2. There will be a quality difference between a 1k housing and a $170 housing, and, tbh., the reviews I saw online for other XSource products aren't encouraging — lots of quality control issues even for simple GoPro housings. Having said that, not much is lost at that price and as a beginner you're likely to flood your housing at some point no matter the quality. My biggest concern would be usability — can you reach all camera controls required for full manual with that housing? Not all housings allow you to do that because the mechanism to reach a dial/button/zoom level can be quite complicated.

  3. The cheapest would be to just make it yourself. A tray is a metal bar with three holes in it, and you can use bike handles for grips, see e.g. here: https://www.scubaboard.com/community/threads/diy-tray-an-arm-project.435791/

  4. The overall rig needs to be slightly buoyant so the tray doesn't necessarily have to be. But typically you weigh it down or float it by tinkering with the handles.

  5. You need attachment points for your strobe/lights on top of the tray handles. And then some kind of flex arm arrangement, typically consisting of two or three rigid bars with ball hinges or a flex arm so that you can adjust the strobe position. Finally, a quick release coil lanyard that keeps the camera attached to you at all times.

I've had a few hamsters, and you have carefresh bedding down, but opt instead for this carefresh bedding. It's super absorbent so you don't have to change quite so much. It also helps with the smell, because they do stink! I have that same critter trail cage, and be careful, it is very easy to get out of for them. Invest in some gate clips so that he/she can't get out.

2. I named my first hammie Minnie, and she was the BEST hamster I ever had. Then I had Serena and Azalea, and then Lady.

3. Cutest hamster? My first one: Minnie

4. $1.09

5. WHAT KIND OF HAMSTER?!! Are you getting a he or a she? I hope a she since all my names are girl names! lol You have such an awesome boyfriend. I wish my boyfriend gave me hamsters for Easter.

I shall call him fluffy!

Cheap and easy. Go to a hardware store and ask for a chain that length. They’ll probably cut it off a long chain.

Then buy a pack of these things (only $1 each in stores) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQ5VDBX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1QVQDbSWFNMKW

and use them to clip the cuffs to the chain.

(Or you can buy a rope and tie it onto the clips or cuffs)
