Well you measure lux and convert it to candela and then there's a formula to convert candela to throw (in meters).

So I have this light meter which lets say I measure 906 lux when measured at 5.37 meters between the flashlight and the light meter sensor. Well then on this site I plug then numbers in to calculate candela which gives me 26,126.2314 candela which we'll round to the nearest whole number of 26,126cd.

Throw equals the square root of (candela/0.25)

√(26126/0.25)=323.27m

Make sense?

Having a UV index meter is really the only way to accurately know your reptile is getting a healthy amount of UV at different distances in your enclosure. I've found that even lights from the same brand can vary pretty widely. Also good to know when the light stops producing a healthy amount of UVB which is usually around 6-18 months depending on the specific light. They are a little expensive but, if you know some friends with reptiles you guys can all chip in and share one since UV levels only need to be measured on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.

I have done some research on this and it seems like you have to trust the seller or you can take the glasses into an optometrist office and have them tested (but since you can't return reps it will be too late). I have looked into testing them at home and the UV flashlight thing on YouTube does not work FYI. I even thought about buying THIS, but I haven't really felt like it's worth the hassle atm.
