Oooo how did I never think of using a headlamp?

I've got one of these music stand lights with two heads, and it works pretty well since you can focus one on your fabric and one on the pattern.

We have a Phillips Hue lightbulb in the lamp on the side table, and set the light to red (which interferes with sleep the least) and turn it to the lowest possible setting. (E.g. it's at 1% brightness, and red light.) If we need to go in during the night, we can see, but it doesn't keep him up at all, and the light colour doesn't mess with circadian rhythms. I would highly recommend it! It's controlled by an app, and you can set a schedule for it to (e.g. turn on at 5PM, turn off at 8AM.) Then, in case of overnight diaper changes we have a set of small red lights over the change table. Same theory, red light interrupts sleep less but it's JUST enough for us to be able to see for night time diaper changes.

On the low end of the cost spectrum you can do better. Here's a "Mighty Bright" dual LED light for $14

If money isn't an issue you absolutely cannot beat the "Super Gig Light." It's only one super bright LED but it lights up the whole stand like daylight.

This is the light that i use. It's great because with the duel flexible lights you can cover even large books with bright light without having to reposition the light as you move from page to page. I also use it to light up my Nook and because of the clamp, it has come in handy all over the house when i'm doing something and need a bit of extra light in a specific space. My only complaint, albeit a small one, is the size battery compartment/clamp. It uses 3 AAA batteries which make the clamp end quite weighty which might not make it ideal for paperbacks. But it is also this large battery pack which gives the lights their brightness and long life between battery changes. Hope this helps.

I prefer something like this to a swab: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HW-Alto-Sax-Pad-Saver/dp/B0007XE8YO

You slide it into the sax before you put it away. It saves you faffing around with a damp swab. When you take it out of the sax you put it in the case, then you can't forget to put it back in. I used to have trouble with sticky pads, but not since I used one of these. And the end of it works as a plug, to protect the octave key mechanism when the neck is removed.

Contrary to the major opinion here - I have positive experience with my pad saver.

Though, when I'm cleaning my alto I use both swab and the pad saver. My saxophone pads are less sticky than they used to be when I just used a swab. Even if I'm in a rush and just pop the pad saver back in without using the swab the pads are much less stickier compared to not using anything at all which almost always guaranteed sticky pads the next day.

A good pad saver that doesn't shed is what makes this work. I use this one.

The Mighty Bright orchestra ones are amazing, and what I use for gigs and even for home practice. Amazon link: Mighty Bright 53510 Orchestra Light, Black (US Adaptor) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003B0I09Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_kLNPybAHV1KMB

I definitely recommend!
