Yea 2x6. The elbow is mounted about 1 1/2” behind the edge of the stud. Then I’ll be using 1/2” backer board and then the tile. It’s going to be connected to a Grohe 28672000 Wall Union, Starlight Chrome https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ECXTNW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UtZcBbPEV1QWM.

There is about a half inch range for the nipple that it can connect to.
