Hmmm probably time to get yourself one of these

Why can't you use a harness? Use a harness for practice but then use a regular neckstrap for parades and completions. I recommend this harness and this neckstrap. Both are amazing and I only use the harness at rehearsals but use the neckstrap at shows/comps/parades

If the thumbrest isn't adjustable, this would probably work.

Here's a couple options from Amazon.

If you value the use of your neck/back for God’s sake buy a Harness .

I sure hope you haven’t bought anything because this is what I use and it’s a dream

Neotech Saxophone Strap Regular Swivel hook, Black (1901162) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002E1NSW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JsVkDb346PYKR

Saxophone neckstrap, crazy comfortable and you don’t even feel it. Made to carry an 11 pound Barry saxophone so it will carry your gun, if it asks, get the swivel hook version. Only issue is it isn’t multi cam...

Can’t stress enough how comfortable it is

Any local music store usually carries a few. I like the ones with a padded neoprene strap, like this one.

Neotech. I’ve been using it for a few years now. It has an extra padding insert and is washable. Your shoulder will still have to get used to the weight and you’ll still have some muscle pain. But you won’t have that bruising pain that goes to the bone.

Have you tried one?
I had similar thoughts before i brought one. It seem expensive for a neck strap but i was suffering from neck pain and reached out Joe to ask about their return policy. If you are not happy with the purchase or don’t find them helpful enough you can return then in 30 days by paying the return shipping.

I went ahead and orderer one and I am very happy with it. It does work and in my opinion is totally worth the price. Might me a little up but businesses run to make profit so that’s fine.

Although, I also tried couple of harnesses and found this one to be really good for the price.

Protec Saxophone Harness with Deluxe Metal Trigger Snap, Small, Model A306SM https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HEKS5WY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mDjYBbWKF5AKX

It is sleek and slim down version of normal harness so doesn’t look awkward and is very helpful in distributing the weight on the shoulder so you don’t feel anything at all on your neck.
