The sound can transmit through the concrete and to your table, in effect making your table into a surface that can transmit sound.

Yoga Blocks can serve as cheap monitor stands. Might need some large blocks for the 8'' monitors though.

Cool idea! I've heard that these work really well for slightly more expensive solution.

Just a suggestion, these yoga blocks make decent isolating somewhat shock-absorbing stands.

You might try these yoga blocks for sound isolation pads. They are easy to mod to fit different specs.

After you get those speakers up off the desk, like u/sharkamino says, get a better cartridge for turntable. I'd recommend the Nagaoka MP-110. It's a great cart for the money. Very detailed and a little bit warm. It's available on Amazon for about $120. You'll be stoked listening to Pink Floyd with it.

If you don't care about aesthetics that much, you could use Yoga Blocks which are relatively cheap and from what I read, a good alternative. They are similar to MOPAD isolation pads.

EDIT: A couple more alternatives -

These may not be obviously martial arts related, but! Part of getting myself back into shape and working my flexibility back to where I can join one of my friends in martial arts requires much yoga (since I'm on low-impact sports until cleared by the doctor otherwise).

That being said: here is my drawing: my favorite character who uses a naginata; which is what I hope to be practicing soon. :D

T-shirts are fine, they're all I wear. You just have to get the holster oriented correctly so that it's not pressing outward against the t-shirt, and is instead softly pressing into you so that the shirt drapes over it inconspicuously. I can't see what's going on under the shirt in those pictures, but it looks like there are two "hot spots" where the gun is printing—one at the base of the grip, and one at the rear of the slide. I have two recommendations:

First, the Vedder Light Tuck is available with and without a "claw" attachment. Again, I can't see under the shirt, but I'm guessing because of the way the base of the grip is poking out that you aren't using the claw. They sell them as an add-on kit for 9 bucks (https://www.vedderholsters.com/claw/), so I think it's worth it to check that box.

The bigger problem, though, is that it looks like the whole gun is allowed to tilt outboard; if you look under that shirt, I bet you'll see that whereas the muzzle end of the gun is touching you, there's a gap between your belly and the top of the gun, or at least there's more pressure against you at the muzzle end than at the top. That's the opposite of what you want for concealment purposes—the more the gun tilts out at the top, the more it presses outward on your shirt and looks obvious.

Since you're a leaner guy, you might find that the wedge kit sold by JM Custom Kydex (https://www.jmcustomkydex.com/p/NSWK.html) is the right size for tilting things back in a good direction.

I'm heavier than you and found that I needed a different solution with more material than that, so "the yoga block mod" (https://youtu.be/E4HD4J37u6I) that Scott Jedlinski advocates was necessary. The idea is that you get a big block of foam (any relatively dense foam will do but here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Foam-Yoga-Blocks-Inches/dp/B01FN7X7KE/) and sculpt it down until it fits the shape of your body and orients the gun perfectly for concealment. It's a touch more work, but it obviously tends to yield better results because it's a completely custom solution that you build for your exact body, sort of like tailoring your clothing.

Wood blocks are the best, but here's a set for under $15:

Books will slip and it'll be hard to get them even plus it's paramount that they are even or you're most likely going to be off alignment and probably do more damage than good.

If you can, I would get in a classes before you self practice. Most teachers are very approachable if you let them know what you're looking to learn they'll give you one-on-one in your class. I always ask for adjustments!

u/CeilingRepairman6872 · 2 pointsr/vipassana

I've always had this problem as well and it kept me from sitting more than 20 minutes. Eventually I got a foam block like this and I found a way to prop up my right leg (the problematic one) putting the block under the knee, so that the nerve doesn't get pinched.

Not sure if this is allowed in the goenka retreats or not.

I sat on a standard zafu for a long time before switching to this v-shaped cushion, and I would never go back. It allows for a much more comfortable position, especially if you sit Burmese.

u/billbillbilly · 2 pointsr/canoeing

You want EVA foam, one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get the size you are looking for --- hop over to your local walmart and pick up a pair of Yoga blocks from the fitness area.

Something like this : https://www.amazon.com/yogree-Yoga-Blocks-x6-Stability/dp/B01KLJHJB2?th=1

Get 2 of those and then cut them in half to get 4 blocks

Should give you room to do the shaping you want, just keep in mind that the blocks will compress to match the contours of your roof line already, you don't really need to do much shaping.

I think the blocks I used were originally 8x8x4 and I made 4 blocks that were 8 inches long and 4 inches square, and I cut my gunwale notches 2 inches from the top, leaving 2 inches of cushion that would compress down to about 1.5 inches off the roof line.

This is the glass shelf, Monoprice monitor stand.

These are the foam blocks, yes just yoga blocks.

Video about the foam blocks.

I have been using the Hugger Mugger Zafu cushion since last summer and I absolutely love it. I too started with a folded up yoga mat, but my leg(s) would almost always fall asleep within the first fifteen minutes.

The Zafu cushion is so much more comfortable. The improved support makes it so much easier to keep my center of weight in line with my tailbone and keep from slouching forward over time. I place my Zafu on top of a yoga mat for the sake of my ankles on the hardwood floor, and I never have any physical discomfort anymore, at least with a 20-30 minute sit. It also has a small zipper hidden under the cloth handle which you can use to adjust the amount of hulls inside (I removed some from mine to lower the height slightly), or dump the hulls out so you can wash it.

In conclusion, I can't recommend it enough! The materials and construction are very durable. Take good care of it and I bet that it will last you a lifetime.

Whatever you buy, don't waste your money on expensive isolation stands. Buy Yoga Blocks at Amazon instead. They don't cost much and do a great job of isolating speaker vibration. Read the product reviews on the Amazon page -- a few people mentioned speaker isolation.

u/polypeptide147 · 1 pointr/audiophile

I think it's just a weird request, which is why it was difficult to get an answer. Most people don't put subwoofers on their desk, so size never really matters. Since size never really matters, subwoofers aren't exactly small. The LS50 doesn't have a ton of bass because if it tried, it will distort everything else. The homepod, on the other hand, boosts the bass and just skimps out on the midrange. The LS50 tries to sound more natural.

Anyways, you're going to run into some other problems with the sub on your desk. It will most likely vibrate everything on there. You want to make sure that this doesn't happen. First, get some rubber feet for the bottom of the subwoofer. Under that, go to your local Home Depot or Lowes or whatever, and get a slab of marble. A thicc one, that doesn't make any sound when you hit it with your knuckles. Put that under the subwoofer. Under that, you'll want some foam so the marble doesn't rattle against the table. Get some foam like this. You can cut it in half if it'll be too tall. Put that under the marble, and you'll be good. This all sounds like a lot, but trust me. Having a subwoofer on a desk is going to cause a lot of vibrations.

I also forgot about the Sunfire HRS-8. It is a 10" cube, which hopefully could fit on your desk. The REL is 8.5w x 9.5h x 10.5d inches, which would probably fit on your desk easier, but I'll throw in the Sunfire just in case.

This is what I just got, before I had just folded up a pillow, after getting this though, I find I am much more excited about meditating. It is rather expensive, but in my opinion, was well worth it.

u/TXBRGuy · 1 pointr/headphones

It's mostly personal preference I think it looks pretty cool to have them displayed on something when not I use.

Something very good and cheap you can use is yoga blocks. You can pick up 2 for $10.

You can stand them with the longest side vertical and use the thinner width to just hold your headphones or the wider 6in width if your cans have too much clamp and you want a safe way to stretch them a bit.

EDIT: formatting

I usually just buy these Foam Blocks for my headphones. Depending on what headphones they can fit perfectly and dent instead of wrecking the headphones.

These foam 'yoga blocks' work for a 4" rise for $10 - friend of mine uses them for raising his computer monitor so I thought they could work here too.

/u/jakta, A stack of towels can work for what kirkirus is saying. You can also make or purchase a zafu which is a cushion filled with buckwheat, which is firm without being hard.

u/SandyBunker · 1 pointr/battlestations

Foam blocks. Raise them off the desk to isolate them from vibrating. Makes them sound much much better. But if you're not much of an audio geek, forget about it.

I appreciate the advice. I'll definitely make sure to do that and play around with positioning. I completely forgot about needing speaker stands. I have a pair of wooden TV trays like this- https://target.scene7.com/is/image/Target/11053804?wid=520&hei=520&fmt=pjpeg

And I can also afford to buy a pair of Yoga blocks like these to place underneath the speakers- https://www.amazon.com/Reehut-1-PC-Yoga-Block-Flexibility/dp/B01LW50A1L/ref=sr_1_1?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1501115832&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=yoga%2Bblocks&th=1&psc=1

I can also get this stuff and place it at the bottom of both speakers- https://www.amazon.com/Sponge-Neoprene-Thick-CLEVERBRAND-INC/dp/B01GWD5WOW

I know it's not ideal, but with all of that do you think it will work just fine? Or is there a better solution with different materials you would recommend? Maybe placing something underneath the tray?

I saw this reviewer from NO Audiophile used a lot of miscellaneous materials to raise his speakers- http://noaudiophile.com/JBL_LSR305/JBL_LSR_305_Desk.jpg

So maybe it's not so bad?

u/obsessedgamer13 · 1 pointr/PSVR

Interesting, Maybe ill give it a shot to see how it compares. is this what you have?

Like everyone else is saying, it won't help much for soundproofing, but if you still want to try it, just cut up some yoga blocks. I have them under my 2x 18" subs. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Yoga-Blocks-Set-Black/dp/B01FN7X7KE/ref=sr_1_4_acs_sk_pb_2_sl?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1540925124&sr=1-4-acs&keywords=yoga+block

Impressions?

Cheap (0,30 bucks), but effective.

This is my second stand for my m40x after the boom of threads showing the luxurious or pretty damn cheap headphone stand as part of a meme in this community.
I want to imply that it not nessesary to have one of these but you can also look for other options like zeos with his yoga blocks and stay cool without deform the headphone's shape.
