Hello. I currently have 15 meters of LED strips outlining a projector screen right now. At first I was skeptical. J was concerned it wouldn’t work, OR the voltage would be too much. At first, when I only had the few feet plugged in, the first half dozen LEDs were getting REALLY hot; but once the whole chain was plugged it was working fine, all the LEDs making only Luke warmth. I use this controller.

I do believe the 24v is necessary at that length, but I’d love to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable than me, so you could use a cheaper one.

Indeed it does, however it has the European-style plug as I sourced it from EuroDK. It came with an adapter so you can use it with an American style receptacle, but it's anything but compact so I'm also including (if you want it) the power adapter I bought which has a C14 socket in case you want to use it with your own C13 "kettle plug" cable, as I needed this to connect it to my 220V UPS but will no longer have a need for this adapter (since the switch will be gone).

The idea that Philips could deny me the warranty seems to go against US law. According to the INTERPRETATIONS OF MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT, Hue cannot deny a warranty, even if I am not the original purchaser, if the warranties time limit has not expired. The relevant text:

>Based on section 104(b)(4), 15 U.S.C. 2304(b)(4), the duties under subsection (a) of section 104, 15 U.S.C. 2304, extend from the warrantor to each person who is a consumer with respect to the consumer product. Section 101(3), 15 U.S.C. 2301(3), defines a consumer as a buyer (other than for purposes of resale) of any consumer product, any person to whom such product is transferred during the duration of an implied or written warranty (or service contract) applicable to the product. Therefore, a full warranty may not expressly restrict the warranty rights of a transferee during its stated duration. However, where the duration of a full warranty is defined solely in terms of first purchaser ownership there can be no violation of section 104(b)(4), 15 U.S.C. 2304(b)(4), since the duration of the warranty expires, by definition, at the time of transfer

Since the Hue Warranty does not state that it is defined solely in terms of the first purchaser, they are legally required to honor my warranty rights as a transferree during the stated duration.

> the best way to help this is probably to try to meddle with the acoustics

I think it would be easier to simply buy a different converter that can handle the load. I think Hue cheaps out on their converters, and that at certain brightness and colors, they are taxed to their limits. I don't think they would have had this issue if they designed their converters to be able to use more than 1 amp.

> Trying a different outlet or even a different building

Hue's initial reply to my warranty request suggested this as well. Unfortunately, the converter still makes noise no matter what outlet I place it in.

this is a 24v 5amp DC power supply, but the controller (the part the power plugs into) could still be an issue I think it will not be rated for 5amps, pretty sure it only rated for 2amps, others might be able to clarify on that.
