Decent USB car chargers don't have to be expensive. I got this one for $9 it fast charges 2 phones at the same time.

Also, don't buy USB cables at the gas station. Crappy cables can also slow down your charge. Plus they are much cheaper online.

I have this camera, with this charger, this visor mount, this MicroSD Card, and an extra long mini USB cable I had laying around for my set up and it works great. It's extremely easy to set it all up yourself. I've had the camera for over a year now, and so far it has survived 1 Houston Summer. In total I've spent about a $100 on this whole set up, and i've already had a couple close calls.

You just need to find yourself a 2.1/2.4 amp car charger - like this one from Anker. Then your phone will charge as fast as if it was plugged in a normal electrical outlet.

Here Is a chart comparing charging speeds. At best the one you linked will charge at 7.5 W. If it’s not compatible with some special Qi thing that Apple does it will charge at 5 W.


The best budget charger is to use an iPad charger. Or look for a charger that can supply 12 W per port like this which can charge 2 devices quickly. You can use the cable in the box and it works fine. For cars anker also makes this which does the same.

The cf-100 in the side bar is not 1080p rear, only 720, but it does have a Sony CMOS in the front and that gives very good forward 1080p video.

You are pretty much better off buying 2x a118c cams for front and back

A118c doesn't come with an SD card so pick up a MLC micro SD card, there are several on Amazon I've been using transcend high endurance the 32gb have been good for me.


At this point in time running 2 different cameras is the only way to get true 1080p front and back for cheap.

Short of a budget or anything else useful here to go on, I can suggest the Wowtac A2S. Reasons:

One last edit the C172S POH says its a 12 10 amp, giving you 120 watts, WAY lower then what that charger will pull so get a good charger and you should be set. Check your POH for specific limitations.

First, congratulations. Awesome car, and seeing as it's a white horse of legendary beauty I'll suggest the name Pegasus. But if you want a female name I'll also suggest Jasmine (jasmine flowers are white).

As for needs, you've got the roadside kit so that's great, but I also always keep a blanket in my trunk, either for emergencies or just to have if you go to a park or something. A big blanket is a great thing to have at the ready.

These are great to keep things clean and fresh looking. They also make ones for glass.

I also keep my glove box stocked with these.

Also, a pen and small notepad, a USB charger (with a cable obviously) and a small knife or multitool.

Yes, but the question is how much power is the intercom's power supply producing. You might not have enough power for a Pi 3, but you should be able to easily power a Pi Zero. Try it and see.

You could use something like this as a converter. Ankler makes some good Pi power supplies. Older cars can easily produce 14 volts, so these need to be designed for higher voltages than the standard 12 volts.

There's no USB pass through, but you can use this car charger with a Monoprice Mini-USB cable, if possible with a ferrite core, as a power source for the camera.

This car doesn't have a aux port either. I used a old adapter my parents had lying around (the white and grey bulb thingy) that plugs into a aux port and streams the audio over low power fm radio on a unused station. Then I set the radio in the car to that station. If your car doesn't have a radio, you can get something like this to plug into your pi. I also used a simple car charger, micro usb cable (to power the pi), and a micro hdmi to vga (and aux) adapter to plug the aux cable into. I can't find the exact one I got but it was similar to this but micro hdmi. For software, I used stock raspbian with this bluetooth speaker daemon. Also make sure to turn on autologin and have some dongles and a usb hub handy to set it up.

I put my cables that run from a socket that is in my arm rest and run the cables to the back seat area and stick them in a pocket behind the front passenger seat so they are a little out of the way. No one can just walk away with the charger or cables that way. I think this would be a problem for a lot of drivers though. Asshole PAX will no doubt steal. I have only had to purchase a charger or cables once though since 2015.

The problem you’re having is that your stock car usb charger isn’t powerful enough to keep a charge on your phone. This will solve that issue.

I had this charger for my previous phones and to my surprise when I plug my pixel in, it says "Charging rapidly." Now I'm not sure if plugging in two pixels changes things.

You don't even need the alternate battery, actually. A rechargeable fan or two and a power bank and a usb port in your car. This does require the vehicle to be running/driving to charge the powerbank, but if you're already driving everyday, shouldn't be a problem.

Someone on this sub recommended this, can't remember who.

I experienced the same browning out of my Anker car charger back a month ago and contacted Anker about it. I got a response from them and a replacement car charger since I got it back in September before they realized it didn't work with the 5x/6p and put it as not compatible in the item description.

Their response:

I use numerous chargers, daily, since I go crazy with multiple lights.

XTAR chargers seem to be among my favorites, although I have a pair of Nitecore D4 chargers, which seem to be relegated mostly for AA NiMh charging, these days.

I have four VC2 Plus chargers(although only two are pictured, here. The other two are on the other side of my computer monitor), running on an XTAR U1 USB Hub. They work very well; but I really prefer using my SV2, VC4, and Dragon chargers.

The VP2 chargers get used daily, as well, for my oversized 18650 batteries. They only seem to fit properly, in that charger. The VP2 was my very first XTAR charger purchase, and I have no regrets. They make every solid chargers.

My SV2s and Dragon chargers are my go to chargers for my 26650 batteries, because of the 2 Amp/Hr charge rate. Anything else feels like I"m watching the grass grow lol.

In the car, I carry a pair of MC1 Plus chargers, and they're powered by Anker 24w dual USB (2.1 Amp x 2) plug, which works very well. If I'm somewhere where I can get to an AC plug, I use one of their dual USB Wall Chargers (but in Black).

While it isn't USB-C, much less PD, I use this Anker car charger along with an official Google OEM A-to-C cable (assume it would work with other cables, but just saying what I use), and it keeps up just fine. I use it on trips where I have Waze running and music playing over BT with screen always on, and it gains charge all the way to 100% and maintains just fine.

Nigel is a great name for a first generation M-class.

Is the USB port for charging or for media? If it's for charging then you can fit one of these to basically any car, and pretty much anything with 5 seats will have cupholders, so those two requirements should be easy to meet.

Based on the basic requirements you've given, I'd look at a midsize saloon. They're big enough to deal with 5 passengers or 3 car seats but not so big that you're giving up fuel economy or driving something difficult to manoeuvre in the city. In that class I'd look at a lightly used certified pre-owned (5-15k miles) Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. They're not particularly exciting cars, as the Mazda6 is much more fun to drive, but they're a little bigger, a little cheaper, and all three will be very reliable and safe. The Mazda does have a slightly more upscale feel than the Accord, which is a little nicer than the Camry, but it depends how much money you want to spend. Any of those will be great as basic transport, and they should be reasonably nice places to sit in while you're stuck in LA traffic. Oh, and all three should have decent infotainment systems so if you're looking to plug a USB device into them that should be something they offer.

Eh coding wasn't the right word. More of a multimedia device. I got a breadboard kit with it so I wanted to try making things like an accelerometer and ambient temperature display. I have a laptop I bring with me to work so I would probably code on that or at my desktop in the office.

Shitty to hear man. The few that suck make it shitty for all of us. As for the power adapter, give a different one a try. The way they regulate power is by switching on and off rapidly and they smooth the output with a capacitor. Some are shittier than others and make tons of interference. Especially when they start to go bad. My dashcam came with an Anker 2 port power adapter and it doesn't seem to affect my radio at all. Good luck!

Most dashcams are running off of 5V internally; there's a circuit that converts 12V to 5V integrated into the plug end. Actually, two of the last three dashcams I owned came with a bog-standard USB cable and the sort of cigarlighter USB adapter you could get at any gas station rather than integrating the 12V→5V converter into the plug-end.

get either this one or this one both are excellent chargers, it will not say fast charging depending on your phone but trust me, its as fast as a fast charger.
