Probably not the first gen as those are ancient and terrible.

The tab As are kinda low end and weak, with not a lot of ram or storage, but they're about what you can find for that price. I mean for a kid they're okay I guess but they might be a bit slow and stuff. Never used one but I do have experience with lower end tabs with similarish specs.

You might be better off with something like this:

No rush! Just let me know.

I do know that I have certainly seen mislabled tablets on Amazon before. For instance, I bought a Nuvision tablet a while back and Amazon said it had 1333mhz Ram, when it definitely had 1600mhz. Alternatively, is it possible that you're mixing it up with The Zenpad 8 (e.g. not "S 8")? That's 1.3ghz with 2gb of RAM, so it threw me off at first. Everyone on Reddit said the skip that Zenpad 8 and consider the S8. But my big question is still whether the S8 can handle newish games, or emulation.

EDIT: There's a refurbished Zenpad S8 on sale for $134.99 now, with Prime shipping. That might seal the deal...

The ASUS Z380M-A2-GR Zenpad is a 4.2 star tablet and would be a nice tablet for your choice, has a battery life of 8 hours, 2gb ram which is compatible with running those activities you mentioned, has one the latest operating system Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). Found a cheaper one under 140 [ASUS Z380M-A2-GR Zenpad 8"] (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Z380M-A2-GR-Zenpad-WXGA-Quad-Core/dp/B01FGCXUDU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473475636&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+zenpad+8+z380m&linkCode=ll1&tag=qt088-20&linkId=265093a292323e72f694de6644c02533)

this is my suggestion

I haven't personally used it, but just judging by the specs.... The display is worse, but you should see similar performance with this as you did with your Nexus 7.

I bought this ASUS ZenPad for Christmas and it runs FFRK pretty well. Crashes occasionally (between menus usually) but not bad enough to worry about.

This tablet should run F/GO, right?

Just want to make sure before I drop 200 bucks on something that won't run it.

What is your price range?

The lowest range I would say you could safely go would be the Galaxy tab A which goes refurbished for $144 on amazon

The Asus Zenpad 8 for $129 would also get the job done.

Now, those will definitely get the job done on a budget. They won't be useful for serious gaming, but plenty good enough for anki and looking up stuff or doing qbanks and watching videos. A little patience and you can go with lenovo, which I'll discuss below with more mid-range tablets.

If you want to step up to the $250 range, you could go with the Ipad mini 2, which I hear still runs great, but I don't like that there is no expandable memory.

Now, as far as the latest and greatest, you have a couple of decent options. If you can wait for the Lenovo Tab 4 8 or 8 plus ($100-$250 depending on which version you get), which come out in July, I would wait for them (I don't think they'll have spyware on them, but whatever.)

Personally, I can't wait that long because I have to travel before they are released, so I went with the $300 Huawei MediaPad 3 which has great stats and the update to Nougat and EMUI 5.0 has improved the interface a ton. It has the best speakers on any tablet right now, 4GB ram, a 2k screen resolution, and expandable memory. The only downside for me is there is no USB-C, but that's really not a huge deal for my needs.

After that you start getting into high end tablets that are basically laptops like the Galaxy Tab 3 or iPad Pro.

There are quite a few but since you are going under $200 i'll give yoy two options one near $200 and one far from it

I think the samsung is the better of the two though

Aw, something like this only pops up the day after my girlfriend and I pick out and order tablets.

Would these do fine?
