according to some, these are better value than the M50's

BRAINWAVZ HM5

u/Kadori · 4 pointsr/audio

Beats are generally terrible, the studios are meh at best, and the m50s are a big step up but they aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread like some would have you believe. If you want a great sounding pair of headphones go for the brainwavs hm5 or their less expensive clone the nvx xpt100 (reviews: Brainwav hm5 audiotechnica ATH M50)

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/audiophile

Everyone recommends the M50's. And for good reason. However, I much prefer the sounds from either the Sony MDR-V6 or the Brainwavz HM5's. Not that these are the only options, but two great ones for that price range.
The Sennheiser HD555's are a little out of your price range, but depending on what you want, these are also a very good option.
However, because you will be listening to the hip hop and dubstep, the M50's might be slightly better in the bass.

If you want to stick to the lower end of your budget: This

Otherwise: This

Decent open backs models unfortunately are all ~125EUR+ on amazon.it

u/IHasIcing · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Sennheiser HD558 is just outside of your upper bracket by $2.99 on Amazon right now. I've never heard them, but having heard the HD598 recently, the HD558 should be a great candidate for you. The only downside would be these are open-back headphones, so they will leak a bit of sound and you can hear everything as if you don't have a headphone on at all.

For a closed-back headphone at that price range, lots of people recommends Creative Aurvana Live!, Sony MDR-V6, and Jaycar Pro Monitor Headphones (which is the same as this but less expensive). If you're into modding stuff, Fostex T50RP is considered one of the best headphone for modding and there's plenty of documentation online. Granted it is a tad over your upper bracket as well, thank the modders for that :D

Brainwavz HM5s are good, although slightly above your budget. Build is solid, isolation is good, and they're comfortable. These are regularly recommended over the ATH-M50xs, despite the different price class.

Alternatively, if you're looking for less dry monitoring sound, have a look at the Takstar HI 2050 and Pro 80s, as these have a good reputation for affordable, decent quality fun headphones. Keep in mind that the 2050s are open-backs, so there will be sound leak, so you want to take the Pro 80s over them if that is a concern for you.

Then there's also Philips SHP8000s, which allegedly are a good budget solution, but I haven't heard all that much on them. If the 9500s are anything to go by, though, they'll be more than worth the money if you're on budget.

Basically:

  • HM5 for tough build, good isolation. These won't break easily. Monitoring headphones, often used or professional applications. Detachable cable. Pads can be swapped easily between other HM5-style pads that you can buy from Brainwavz.

  • Takstars for more open and engaged sound. No detachable cable. Less isolation. No detachable cable. Unsure about pad potential swapping.

  • If either of those are just a nono in your book from the visuals or any other aspect, you can always try the SHP8000s, although they're less well-documented. If they're anything like the SHP9500s in signature, with the usual closed-back additions, you can expect a rather well-balanced pair of headphones for a budget, although with narrow soundstage. The SHP9500s are bass-light, but these might not be. A bit of a gamble whereas the other two are well-reputed. Buy these if the other two are nonos for you for whichever reason.

Les Brainwavz HM5

J'ai demandé au subreddit des gens qui aiment les casques et c'est celui qu'on m'a recommandé

Il est vachement cool.

u/OverExclamated · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I tried to find a pair of open-backed headphones for under £100 that I could recommend. These were as close as I could get:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/beyerdynamic-770-PRO-Studio-Headphones/dp/B008POFOHM

For closed backs, these are a good option:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006MA9XXM?psc=1

edit: The m40x 's you found are a very good option for a semi-closed set of headphones, but the stock pads are not quite up to snuff in the comfort department, so purchasing an additional set of more comfortable earpads, such as HM5's, is advisable.

Here's a great example where Canadians are getting royally screwed...

Brainwavz HM5, USA:

Brainwavz HM5, CANADA:

What a price difference.

Well for the headphones I could recommend the brainwavz hm5 http://www.amazon.com/BRAINWAVZ-HM5-Studio-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B006MA9XXM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421005528&sr=8-1&keywords=brainwavz+hm5

Or the Audiotechnica ATHM50, the DT770, DT990 or anything from r/headphones.

Do you need two graphics cards? You could buy a second later also are you at 1080p or 1440p or 4K or what?

Wow such expense mothership
Why not get a cheap simple mechanical keyboard?

The decent open back sennheiser models start at £119, if that's over your budget I suggest you go with something like a brainwavz HM5

Interesting post. Thanks. I have come to appreciate the realities of not being able to bump-bump-bump the room with speakers for mixing. There are so many ways to mix. There is one guy who is very successful, kind of an alt rock guy (pardon I do not have his name), and he uses speakers and mixes at, like, 70dB, which if you ever use a handheld dB meter, that is the most quiet I have ever heard anyone mixing, yet his stuff sounds great, it really does.

Re your work, I am glad you are happy with it. For me to have an opinion I would have to hear it, but I have less opinions these days. There is no end to it, when I hear a mix I am really hearing the source instruments, is how I hear it, and then "Well! What are the source instruments?!" blah bleh blah. :-)

edit: I just don't like things on my head, at least around my ears. But sounds nice to have the get-away world, shut the door on the rest of it, so to speak. I have my headphones right here. Says HM5 on them. I think they've been modified. They were a gift from friend whose brother is some headphone nut all into it. They're not bad, I am not compelled to change them out for something else. I should read the reviews. But I'm just not drawn to them. I do not associate headphones with good things, and I do not trust what I hear with them. edit: PS I've got pretty good speakers, so there's that. I really like my speakers and spent a long road of effort to get to them. I hear detail, even freq response, and I like them. -I guess I am so used to textile dome tweeters, it is a home territory for me, of sorts.

u/nyoki44 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

i would go over to /r/headphones and ask them what headphones they think what you should get because they live and breath headphones over there. but some quick and easy recommendations would be audio technica m50 , Creative Aurvana Live! 2 , V-MODA Crossfade LP , Brainwavz HM5 , and Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro . if you have any questions feel free to ask.

There aren't that many closed back headphones with a balanced sound signature in your price range. One is the ATH M40x, but you won't like the fit or the pads. Changing pads is possible, but velour pads don't seem to work well with them.

Perhaps the Brainwavz HM-5 with their velour replacement pads would suit you. The combination is shown in the "Frequently bought together" section of this page. The Lindy HF100 is the same headphone and may be less expensive. Both are based on the Takstar Pro 80, which is no longer available.

u/Camper1995 · 1 pointr/headphones

Hmm, Brainwavz HM5 comes to my mind, you won't break the bank, it will be very comfy, closed-back so you won't bother anyone around you, detachable cables and decent, neutral-ish sound...

Posting again to see if I can get any more opinions:

Budget - soft $100, hard $150

Source - Phone and PC

Requirements for Isolation - I'll mostly be using them in public places (bus, college lounges, work), so more is better.

Preferred Type of Headphone - over-ear

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced overall, but with strong melody ranges and bass? So warm to neutral, probably? (I'm new at this)

Past headphones - Sennheiser HD 280 and 439. Liked the sound of the 439 a lot (particularly with pop and EDM), but not a huge fan of the felt-like padding or the plasticky build (though it was sturdy).

Preferred Music - Hugely varied, but currently leaning towards pop/dance, EDM, rock, and indie rock/pop. Recent playlists include Monsters & Men, Zedd, Flo Rida, Little Mix, Green Day, Owl City, and the Jackson 5.

Since last time, I think I've narrowed it down to Audio-Technica ATH-M40x, Creative Aurvana Live, Brainwavz HM5, and NVX XPT100, but I'm open to anything. I thought I had settled on the HM5s, but then I found XPT100s are the same thing (with different pads/headband) for $50 less, and a number of reviews (see here) ranked the M40x above either (due to poor fit), so now I'm unsure again.

u/TheOGJD · 1 pointr/CoDCompetitive

These Headphones
and an Audio-technica AT2020 or a Blue Yeti is my personal favorite setup for the price and quality. I have had alot of headphones, this was the best for the price I got it at. I would take this setup over Astros any day and the headphones can be used for music aswell.

Edit: Sennheiser Headsets such as the G4ME ONES are superior to the Astros imo. The MixAmp is probably the best thing with the Astros and is really handy for gaming.

These are just the best headsets, in my opinion, for their price. If you can spend more than $200, you can get awesome headphones.

Thanks! Those look nice but I'm still worried about the cable breaking.

Budget - up to £100, would prefer less

Source - Mainly Sony Xperia T phone (though this will be replaced by another Android device in a few months), also PC

Requirements for Isolation - Good isolation (I'd definitely prefer closed-back)

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over-ear

Preferred tonal balance - Neutral if possible, maybe a slight emphasis on bass

Past headphones -

  • JVC HAM5X (Xtreme Xplosives) - These were bought when I was younger, I enjoyed them for rock/dubstep but aren't really representative of what I'm looking for now. They're also pretty ugly.

  • Philips SHL5000 - Bought these a few years back because they were so cheap at the price I found them. Again I'm looking for something with more quality.

Preferred Music - EDM, Rock, Rap, Classical - really a variety, I'd like the headphones to be fairly versatile if possible

    Location - United Kingdom

What I'm essentially looking for is some headphones with a balance of sound quality and style, whilst still being affordable. I'll be wanting to wear them out-and-about and I'm not particularly interested in having massive black cans around my neck. I know this is pretty vain, but I do find it frustrating that there aren't a lot of style choices for high quality headphones on the market, particularly in this price range. It seems like you have to choose between audiophilia and fashion.

Anyway, I've researched a few, and frankly what I really want are the Audio-Technica ATH-M50XBLs to be honest, but they're a bit pricey for me. In terms of good quality sound for a lower price, the BRAINWAVZ HM5 seem like a no brainer, but they're pretty huge and not exactly what I was thinking. A nice style I've found for a good price are the Philips SHL5905BK CitiScape Uptowns, but I don't know anything about the sound quality of these.

So, are there any such headphones which are stylish like the Uptowns but have the sound quality of the HM5s, without having to spend as much as the Audio-Techincas? There's an irritatingly specific challenge for you! Thanks.

Edit: During further research I've found reports that the Philips CitiScape Uptowns are actually pretty good on sound quality too. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Budget - < 150€

Source - Laptop, Desktop, Phone - Samsunbg s7(would be nice but not so important)

Requirements for Isolation - I need some isolation, prefered a lot but not that critical. I will use them at home and at school on my laptop.

Preferred Type of Headphone - full-sized

Preferred tonal balance - Maybe netural or a little V/U shaped.

Past headphones - CANYON - CHR-HS07N. They are dying. This will be my first Hifi headphhones.

I was thinking the Brainwavs with a add on mic and a decent amp for general musical purposes.

That puts me over budget, but not by that much. Do you see any glaring flaws in that plan that I might not of noticed?

u/mac404 · 1 pointr/headphones

FYI: the Kingston HyperX Cloud was essentially a rebranded Takstar Pro 80 with a mic. This should help you find more info if you want to compare.

I would not recommend the Fostex without a separate amp, and it isolates quite a bit less than other closed headphones.

In terms of the NVX XPT100 - this thing goes under a lot of names (all essentially the same headphone from Chinese brand "Yoga" with different pads). For instance, the Brainwavz HM5 at 180 CAD. These still have a somewhat rough sound, but the treble isn't quite as crazy as the HyperX Cloud.

My choice in that range for closed headphones would probably be the ATH M50x at 200 CAD. This would be a bit warmer sound, with a less severely distorted bass than the HyperX Cloud.

u/wtb_username · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - around US$150 and US$200 (can be a lot more like US$600, depending on durability; so a good margin here)

Source - computer (PC/Notebook)

Requirements for Isolation - Not sure, to be honest. I will use them only at home/work.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? - No. Not at all.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over the ear (with mic is a plus but not required)

Preferred tonal balance - high. volume. like, really loud. I don't understand that much but I need something capable of act almost like a pc speaker because I have some hearing problem (yes, literally)

Past headphones - Sony Pulse Elite Wireless. 3 of them.

Preferred Music - rock, metal, pop, ost games and others. since I only want a loud one is not really important, I guess.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I don't like they break in like 6-8 months. I hate the input for USB/charging cable because it stops working in a few months. I have 3 pairs of this thing and I really like the volume; really high/loud (I don't use that "bass impact" at all). I did buy a Razer Kraken V2 and, I don't know if was something with the computeres I tested, but this had really low volume (other people confirmed too) - but they were very confortable. I would like to keep volume high as the Pulse Elite and, if possible, a bit more confortable - since I keep it 10 hours a day and use glasses; but volume is top priority.

Hope you guys can help since I have no idea where/what to search. SPL/sensitivity seems to be something overlooked by the companies and not a standardized measure.

the assistant gave me two choices: NVX XPT100 and Brainwavz HM5 but I don't know if any of them are as loud as Pulse Elite

u/SeafoodDuder · 1 pointr/Advice

Try to find yourself a pair of 'closed' headphones. They're great at blocking out sound. When I have music on and my closed headphones on then I can't hear my sister talking in front of my face.

You want a pair of closed headphones where the earpads completely cover your ears. Maybe something like the Brainwavz HM5.

This was the first thing that came to my mind. You could always ask over in /r/headphones. :)

u/InhailedYeti · 1 pointr/headphones

It's not really a closed back equivalent of the HD 600 afaik but the HM5 is a pretty solid neutral closed back headphone. Between my other pairs (and the broken HM5 headband which was entirely my fault) I don't use it as much because I heavily prefer open headphones but I still like them and they seem to be pretty well regarded in general. They're also on sale right now, no idea for how long.

There's also the HD 380 Pro though I don't have any personal experience with them so I can't say much about them. There also doens't seem to be a lot of talk about them here but they have pretty solid reviews everywhere that sells them and, worst case scenario, a lot of vendors have a 30 day refund system.

Here.

The Sennheiser Hd598 is probably one of the best middle-range options there are. They are very comfortable with good build quality. They have a very clear sound to them with tight bass (does not overwhelm). The only con is that they do not isolate well, but if you use them at home, this shouldn't be a problem. OH and playing Fps games with these are great, you can pinpoint sounds really well.

If you want a closed option, check out the Brainwavz Hm5, they also have a very balanced sound and leather cups that are to die for. But if you don't mind no isolation, go for the Hd598.

u/Vliger2002 · 1 pointr/headphones

I'm not sure if you'd be able to acquire them locally, but a good set of neutral headphones with great isolation are the Fischer Audio FA-003. This pair of headphones have been rebranded by both Brainwavz and NVX (sorry, Amazon US links):

  • Brainwavz HM5
  • NVX XPT100

I, personally, have the NVX versions. With a direct signal, these headphones have a neutral sound signature. But listening to the tracks you've provided and using an equalizer via my Creative Sound Blaster E5, I'm able to really emphasize the bass response in these headphones and make them more fun (try Porter Robinson's song "Language").

These headphones require a pretty simple amplifier to give them good volume. Your MacBook Pro will have no problem driving these headphones, as I've used mine with them and had no issues.

As for isolation, these have the best isolation of the headphones I own. As a result, you'll hear more, and the people around you will hear less. I don't have to turn the volume up much to enjoy these, and even at those low volumes, I can't hear anybody around me talking or making noise. I've used these at the office at work, and they're great.

As for the issue regarding warmth, I really don't experience that with these. And I've not had any Bose headphones (although that will change next week) to support or counter your claims of them making your ears warm.

Let me know if you have any questions!

According to user reviews the m40x is terribly fragile, so i'm holding off for a bit on that until i have zero other options.

I found this one on amazon and it ships to NL: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brainwavz-HM5-Studio-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B006MA9XXM

It's one of those Yoga rebrands mentioned in the guide. Is the m40x so much better than these for the increased price (95 euros vs ~75 including shipping for the HM5)? Because that HM5 looks a lot sturdier (and better, to me at least :) ).

EDIT: The HM5 doesn't seem to fare much better, and seems to have a less reachable support. Give and take a i guess.

In this thread already someone mentioned M50x from ATH. Avoid these. Low quality compared to other headphones on the market. I personally used them, I have a very large head and ears, very small for me. Extremely small actually. Also they have terrible audio positioning for games.

  • Takstar Pro 80: These have a neutral sound from my understanding.

  • HD two from Status: These I am personally buying in a few days. They have a neutral sound with a laid back mids.

  • CB-1 are a slight more bass with one of the best pads there are. So comfy

  • Creative Aurvana Live are neutral but small pads before you replace them. HM5 pads have 3 inch thick pads for your ears. Again make sure these fit.

  • Brainwavz HM5 headphones: Neutral, huge pads and really comfy.

  • DT 770: A deep, rich bass but not over whelming.

Since you're taking /u/klepperx's suggestions and saving some money, you could get a much better microphone and still stay under budget. Since you're getting a desk microphone, there's no need to get a headset (although the Cloud / Cloud II would definitely be the ones to get). What kind of fit and sound signature do you like? Do you need the headphone to be portable? What are your requirements for isolation? Here's my reccommendations at ~$100:

  • Brainwavz HM5 - Closed back, over ear, neutral sound, not easily portable due to lack of folding hinge. Can also be found as Yoga CD880 and NVX XPT 100.
  • AKG K240 Studio - Open back (provides much better positional audio than even most virtual surround, but leaks sound and provides little isolation from background noise), over ear, neutral sound, not portable due to amp requirement.
  • Sennheiser HD 558 - Open back, over ear, neutral sound, not portable due to lack of folding hinge. These are my current headphones, and I can't say enough good things about them. They're very similar to the HD598, with the main difference being the material that they're made of.
  • Sennheiser HD 598 Cs - Closed back version of the HD 598, which are virtually the same as the HD 558. I actually thought these cost more, so they're a great deal. Be aware that they will have a different frequency response (read: more bass) due to being closed-back.
  • Audio Technica ATH-AD500x - Open back, over ear, bright (mid forward), not portable due to lack of folding hinge.

If you don't like any of the headphone recommendations, try the /r/headphones purchase advice assistant.
