It really depends on where it's stalling.
It sounds like the Harddrive is what's delaying you. If that's the case, SSD drives are super cheap and not difficult to swap out.
example: 250GB SSD - $28
If it's CPU, you would generally be unable to affect this, other than uninstalling/exiting apps.
If it's Ram, you could of course upgrade it, but I would suggest not making that purchase unless you intend to use the laptop in the future. Ram is a bit more expensive and would not be transferable from a laptop to a desktop.
The SSD drive could be moved over to your new system. I use a 500 GB SSD to boot my desktop w/ a 1 TB secondary drive. I have plenty of room to install games to the faster SSD, when it's a factor and the system boots from cold to login screen in roughly 8-9 seconds.

I don't like Kingston's SSDs, and a 240GB model would be a bit faster (due to having more NAND dies) while only costing slightly more. As such, this Crucial BX500 240GB model would be a better choice.
So I’m finally going to pull the trigger on this, but I’m impatient and the one you posted is out of stock until 9/8. I guess your post was effective.
