This laptop will unfortunately not run games very well. The main thing you want to look out for is the Graphics Card when considering gaming performance. While this has a decent Processor and plenty of RAM, the Graphics Card is the HD 5500. This is not even a standalone card, but rather a chip built into the Processor. You may be able to play older games on it, but anything new will run at framerates and resolutions significantly lower than your PS4. From my brief research it also appears Dead by Daylight does not support these "integrated" graphics chips.

If you really want a laptop that's capable of any gaming, you should be ready to spend $600+. Something like this is really the lowest end you're going to be able to get that still plays games, even simpler ones. I'd go to r/buildapc for more info. Many of the users there are fanatical about getting you to build your own desktop but there's some useful info about laptops for gaming as well.

u/slowsuby · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I’d get this.

I have the 970m version and it rocks.

Hi,

Based on your requirements I have made this noteb search

You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button in the upper-left part of the search results page. You can also click on the laptops for more information.

I see you went for the Dell G3 - has good stats for that price but it you're looking for good quality I'd go for a 7000 series from dell - like this one: Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming - great battery life and specs, better build than the G3 (from my point of view) and you can find it on amazon for 788$ - you can add a HDD later for space - the SSD makes all the difference.

Or this one amazon if you really want bigger storage - but I would go for the first one..

You're looking at ~$700+ regardless of specs, if you want RuneScape to be "playable" on a laptop. Here's two suggestions I made, on a similar post:

>It's $1.4k, and has an i7-7700HQ with a GTX 1060. Mind you, most areas will be a solid 60fps in the Ultra preset. Some newer spots like the Lost Grove will still require more power.

>Here's one that will do it, but with SSAO instead: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Gaming-15-6-Inch-Screen/dp/B071JPYP1Z

>It's $718, with an i7-7300HQ and a GTX 1050. That i7 on it is a fair bit underpowered though. It might struggle to retain a solid 60fps, even with the game downgraded to SSAO.

If you really don't care about 60fps (as your post states), you should grab the Dell Inspiron.

A 960m graphics card can run Battle Front 2 at 45 fps 1080p medium settings according to Notebookcheck. However, if I where you, I would look for a laptop like this Acer which has newer 1050 ti graphics, or even a newer model Dell Inspiron 7567 if your looking for a cheap gaming laptop.

u/LonerIM2 · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

I would recommend this [Dell Inspiron 15] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JPYP1Z/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you may need, 7th generation, i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1TB HDD, 15.6 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, GeForce GTX 1050 GPU that should be able to handle games on medium to high settings with very good FPs, long battery life, dedicated graphics card, high build quality, and it’s within your budget.

If you need something more powerful, I would recommend this [Acer Nitro 5] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074Q54GSR/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you may need, 7th generation, i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 15.6 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU that should be able to handle games on medium to high settings with very good FPs, decent battery life, you can add 1TB HDD, dedicated graphics card, high build quality, and it’s within your budget.

Normally, I go for things that will be good for 3 years, then get a new machine. The monkey wrench here is how the video card market became totally obliterated because of bitcoin mining. My 3 year old R9 380x video card that I got for ~$300 back then is still worth half that today (normally GPU/CPU prices drop off very quick when new generations come out). That means that new GPU's are still really expensive, even though bitcoin stuff has been dropping off.

I looked at memoryexpress and they look super overpriced, but if those are CAD, maybe they're ok. If those are USD, they're super overpriced.

If you're sticking with WoW Classic, Hots, and D3, I don't think you need a SSD at all. They're pretty lightweight. So you can look at laptops that still have a HDD (unless you plan on getting newer stuff like Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out next year).

If all you're doing are those 3 games, I feel like this laptop will give you what you want and it will be inexpensive (a comparable PC would be about the same price, maybe a tad less)

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Gaming-15-6-Inch-Screen/dp/B071JPYP1Z/

The key on that one is the hybrid drive. It's faster than a HDD because it has SSD features, but you get 1 TB of storage. Normally a PC at this range would have a 256 GB SSD. It's cutting corners, but you're not looking to play cutting edge graphics games. D3 is 7 years old, WoW classic is 14 years old, HotS is 4 years old.

All that said, your existing PC is better than this laptop and if you're fine with using that PC (i.e. you're not prioritizing portability), I'd say just stick with it for as long as you can, re-evaluate if your game of choice changes to something more demanding.

u/BrianHotshot · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The closest you'd get to a GTX 1060 would be the Dell i7577 (~$979 USD). It has been recommended a lot.
Dell i7577: i5-7300 HQ, 8GB, 128SSD + 1TB HDD

Another laptop more suitable for your price range would be the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 with a GTX 1050 at $~700 USD with similar specs.
Dell Inspiron 1050

Hope this helps.

You might fair decently with this one.

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Gaming-15-6-Inch-Screen/dp/B071JPYP1Z/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=dell+1050&qid=1564842728&s=gateway&sr=8-5

It has a decent dedicated gpu (This is good if you use davinci resolve), a decent enough processor for video editing (just don't go balling on 4K footage, for 1080p editing it will be more than adequate though) and 8gb's of ram which is enough to start with. You can always add more ram later down the line.

edit: The screen isn't the best but for a budget laptop, you can't get much better. Just trust the scopes for any color grading work and make sure you export samples of it to watch on another devices/screens to make sure it matches your vision. Later down the line you can hook up an external monitor with better color accuracy.

Ok mate, first of all, with the exception of the business line, saying a company(lenovo) is a good laptop is like saying I heard ford is a good car, Lenovo the company has many laptops.

Second, try reading the subreddit sidebar, it is a form according to which the people recommending you are supposed to understand what you require. It also helps you to understand the stuff that differentiate laptops(doesn't go into technical stuff, you don't need to know which cpu/gpu you need in your laptop).

Since you say gaming, GPU is what mainly defines your laptop performance, followed by the cpu, the second most important thing for gaming. But you probably will also be doing simple stuff like browsing, etc, so battery life is generally the next big thing.

The companies making GPUs are Nvidia, and AMD.For all intents and purposes, AMD GPUs suck in laptops, they are ok for desktops but you can simply ignore and ones. Now Nvidia has the following lineup:

Mx150

GTX 1050

GTX 1050ti

GTX 1060

GTX 1070

GTX 1070ti

GTX 1080

GTX 1080ti

You can look at my 150(600usd laptops) to GTX 1060(850usd laptops).

This is the best thing at the low end. You'll be able to play any game you want as long as you are able to lower your settings to the lowest, for the new games.Battery life should realistically be about 9 hours.

This is much better just for gaming, but doesn't have an SSD, and the screen is slightly shit, and even though it has amazing battery for gaming laptops(6 hours)

This is the best all around bang for buck. Above this price , value for money keeps reducing considerably.

u/HardwareHoarder · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

The one that I believe offers good value is the one that has a quad core i5 7300hq and costs $680. The eluktronics laptop with similar hardware (i5 7400, 8GB RAM, 1TB hybrid drive, Windows 10 home) would cost $710 without the OS
$400 for the laptop
$180 for the CPU
$80 for 8GB RAM
$50 for hard drive

and obviously you can opt to get a smaller capacity SSD instead

My Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop runs high to ultra graphics settings.

u/LectricGaming · 1 pointr/buildapc

Maybe just get a new laptop. The 940MX is worse than a GTX 550 ti (7 years old!!!), which isn't good at all for gaming.

How about this one? Has a 1050 ti and an i5-7300HQ.

Since this laptop is for college and gaming I assume that you want portability and power. With that assumption in mind I would point you in the direction of the Acer Swift 3. It doesn't have the power of gaming laptops but it has enough power to run FFXIV. Its aluminum chassis is ideal for students as it can take a few bumps without feeling like a brick. Reviews complain about dim screen on this model but from my experience its not as bad as reviews say. If you want more power you can look at the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series

List:

  • Laptop - Dell Inspiron 15 7000, okay if you want to play any games but it's definitely overkill for just school work. Link
  • Phone (not pictured) - Samsung note 9
  • Calculator - TI-84 plus Silver Edition, calculus is some bullshit. Link
  • Knife - HOM Design Ti Basilisk-R balisong, expensive but damn do I love it flips amazing too if you’re into that and are fidgety like me. Link
  • Watch - Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch, basically a fitbit with extra stuff but I like it. Link
  • Headphones - Skullcandy earbuds, just the pair I haven’t lost...yet. Link
  • Water Bottle - YETI Rambler 36oz, this thing is actually super useful since I’m walking around campus all day and having cold water is a nice thing. Link
  • Vape - Yocan Evolve Plus XL, yeah this a vape for…. CBD purposes. Link

Also if you guys have any recommendations for some nice pens do let me know, thanks!

Technically yes, and that version does list the IPS display, but that version has only a 1050 and a large but slow HDD as the primary boot drive. I would prefer a refurb 1050 Ti + 256GB SSD model over that, for a similar price.

Also your post was auto removed because it contains an affiliate code. I assume this came from another site and wasn't intentional, but if you edit your link to "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JPYP1Z/" it'll still work but won't fall under the filter.

TLDR: AMAZON >> PCFACTORY.

I think there is a missunderstanding what a "Hybrid" hdd is.

So a hybrid hdd is basically a hdd with a ssd built in as a cache. This ssd isn't accessible by the user but instead houses copys of files you access often and buffers writes. This does improve performance in day to day tasks but if your thing you are working with is bigger than your ssd cache you will feel noticeable "hdd-lag".

Also that is what your laptop probably has built in. "1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive with 8GB cache"

But that's not what you want, you want a ssd and a hdd as 2 separate devices both accessible to the user, the way it should be.

That's not what they sold you i'm afraid. The text in the left red box is just badly placed and doesn't belong to the specs. I would probably go as far and say it's deliberately badly placed so it can trick people into thinking it belongs to the specs.

But on the other hand notebookcheck says all variants do have a ssd.

So i'd check what exact model you got. Modelnumber on laptop , invoice, and website do match?

Also compare the rest of the specs to the website. did you get the i7? because here i found the one you should have on amazon i couldn't see a i7 model with hybrid hdd.

In any case i would sent it back get a full refund and get it somewhere less shady. with a ssd, maybe for a better price.

Edit Afterthought: your model surely was an addition to the series which before all had a ssd so the red box does only advertise that ssd. But since your model does not have a ssd that ad is badly placed and mislead you into thinking that the laptop has an ssd. Well it has not. But still, i'd send it back, get somewhere else with an ssd maybe even cheaper.
