Connect any of these multi room streaming audio receivers to your systems of your choice. Stereo receiver, AV receiver, powered speakers, or whole home audio system.

Discontinued Chromecast Audio $47 and Chromecast HDMI for AV receiver. Optical out.
Dayton WiFi Receiver $42. Dayton Fly-Fi app for streaming music, Apple Airport, DLNA/NAS, and Bluetooth if the receiver does not have any of those features. Optical out.

I agree. I think that's why they have the Echo Link. Basically a cheaper Bluesound Node.

Also, I would hope that they are coming out with an echo that has an optical out, since the Echo Link and the Echo Link Amp both have optical inputs. Then we could get the echo and just skip the rest of that stuff and go straight to the stuff we want haha.

Amazon anounced a bunch of new/coming soon alexa stuff recently. Two of them fit the ticket of what you are asking for.

Echo Input which looks like a basic aux out put.

and
Echo Link Amp which has better output optioons...but also costs a bunch more.

Cheaper option would be something like a echo input. I did this and it worked okay.

Not really. That's part of my question. How does that work?

I looked into the Echo Input combined with the Echo Link. But I'm not sure that it will do what I want. I mean...is it that crazy? The $35 Chromecast Audio did it, but I can't find hardly any devices that take a cast, or at least clearly take a cast, from the Tidal app. They all seem to use bluetooth. Rather than sending data from one device to the Link (or similar), I want to tell the Link to download it all on it's own. I'm not even sure I can cast to the input, sounds like it's for voice command only.
