Yes, she published the FA bible Fat!So? in 1998. It's currently ranked #625,649 in Amazon bestsellers, and she has never updated it.

I think that dysmorphia is pretty common in women in general, regardless of body size or shape. It kind of sucks that despite all the amazing things we can do/lift/move/create, we're so conditioned to be hypercritical of our own bodies. :( The only vaguely helpful thing I can say is huck the scale and go pick up some heavy things! Even if you're not sure you'll feel better about your body in ten pounds' weight loss, I bet you'll feel like a BAMF if you up your PR by ten pounds.

Side note, this book made the rounds on my rugby team at one point and I still recommend it for anyone who doesn't like their body much- whether you're medically "fat" or not. It's a quick, funny, and woman-positive read.

That's one side of the story. Not the only one. It is the side that is blessed by our fatphobic culture.

I am all up in this like so hardcore! I don't have a blog but do visit a couple to see big women being beautiful, sassy, stylish and unapologetic. I'm a big girl who LOVES big girls. I'm all about self love and body acceptance, wether you're big, small, tall, short, green...etc etc. I think people are so blinded by what they think is "normal" and "acceptable" that we all sometimes don't see the beauty in everything and everyone around us!

I visit this site so gaze upon beautifully photographed large men and women, the photographer is a sassy strong supporter of "fat is beautiful"...NSFW

This chick is my current idol, she is so hip and beautiful and all about being yourself ALWAYS! and loving all of yourself. Kick ass blog

I also have this book in my WL that is a body positive book for us big women!

I read! a lot! my favorite blog is http://danceswithfat.wordpress.com but i also read books- i highly highly recommend lessons from the fatosphere by kate harding and marianne kirby. I've also read Fat!So? by Marilyn Wann, The obesity Myth by Paul Campos. Health at Every Size by Linda Bacon PhD, and I'm currently reading Fat The Owner's Manual by Ragen Chastain and Fat Sex by Rebecca Jane Weinstein.

I also write... I write for three body positive blogs- my own, fierce freethinking fatties, and axis of fat. So I writ eout my insecurities and my strengths and I try my best to get back on track.

Christ, that is fucked up. And I think as a teenager without your own money, you don't have a lot of options.

Maybe something that would work is to tell them that it's your body and your life. You're 16, not 6 - you don't need to be managed. Then tell them that you're not going to listen to their insults anymore. If they insult you, walk away. Completely disengage.

I also recommend the book Fat!So?, which is very fat-positive; perhaps you could get it from your library.
