Kind of looks like a Gerber Gator Machete Pro.
I had most of the volumes up till Dark Horse dropped it I think? This was years ago, so I never get to read the ending =\ There was an anime too, I've only seen 1 episode and the production value was pretty low.
In case anyone was wondering, this is the Gerber Gator Machete Pro.
It's not angled correctly for that kind of penetration, and the outside portion is blunt. At a 90 degree (or more obtuse) angle you could use a weapon with something like that in mind, but making it more acute than that starts making the swing more and more akward. For this one, you'd pretty much have to not be swinging to use the hook, but executing a pulling motion. Something like a Hawkbill or maybe a not too curved Billhook machete would achieve what you're talking about so long as the curve didn't go too far.
