They're not too powerful so you'll get more value if you're photographing still scenes. It's nice because you can see exactly what the light will be like, but a $30 manual flash and a similar stand/modifier may be more versatile.
After going down this road for casual use, I'd like this kind of mount that holds your flash - but I also have a set of remote triggers to make it really easy to fire. Those are another $30 bucks and the costs start building up quickly, so it's a slippery slope.
