You can do that or you can do what I've done for the past month. Get one of these.

It charges my iphone 5 up a good 4-5 times without having to be recharged. Super nifty

u/nerd_ep3 · 5 pointsr/comiccon

I totally agree. I just purchased one that should last me during my camp outs this year. It should give me about 4-5 charges to my phone.

I mentioned the pellets in your thread here Carl, also posted some pics and commented on using the biolite in high winds.

My suggestion is to get a external battery (someting like this) that can output 2A, and use things like the biolite, solar, powerpot, etc to keep the battery charge maxed out. Than use the battery to charge whatever devices you need.

This one is the one I use. Nice form factor for slipping in your back pocket.

External battery. Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/RAVPower®-10400mAh-External-Thunderbolt-Incredible/dp/B009V5X1CE/ref=zg_bs_7073960011_4

Really saved me on some international trips where I was on the move a lot. Especially in Africa when I was camping instead of having a normal room with outlet each night. Charged my camera, cell phone, kindle, etc. Extremely helpful.

would recommend ravpower over this. Bought it on sale last year for $30 but still at $1 more then this woot sale it's worth it.

I use this one I bought it at around $40. I suggest sticking too RAVPower, ANKER, and Lumsing battery packs though. From what I have read up on they are the more reliable ones. And at least 7000 mAh supply.

EDIT: Didn't tell you what it's like. The pack itself is't too big. Comparable in size to lugging around a second N5. I am for the most part at work or at home where I have wall access so it stays in my laptop bag for most of the time. It is great when I am out and need it though. Much worth the $25 dollars it's at now.

EDIT 2: I'm an idiot, changed some grammar stuff.

I purchased this one and haven't been disappointed at all. Use it quite a lot, and is especially great for travel. $39

Check out RAVPower. Got one a couple months ago and love it.

One of these pops up on slickdeals every now and then. I got a 10,000mAh Ravpower one for around $25 a while ago. It's important to go for a quality brand/unit as its easy for cheap Chinese crap that lies about the quality/capacity of the battery packs they use, so a $10 20,000mAh charger might really just use a 5,000mAh battery for instance.

No idea on the one you're looking at, but this one works great for me: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009V5X1CE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's got enough power for both the pi and an attached alfa wifi adapter.

The one I have (RAVPower 10400mAh) is only $22 and outputs at 2.1 A. That would be enough to charge the phone like 3 times.

I picked this up a while ago and leave it in my bag. I use it, charge it, use it, charge it but I have yet to ever run it out. I suppose I could test it and see what its real world output is but I suspect 4-5 full charges on my iPhone 5 from it. Lots of other options but I picked this for the dimensions. Fit a pocket in the bag perfectly.

Buy the Hero4 to future proof yourself a bit more. Another GoPro won't be coming out for awhile and when it finally does, it will only be marginally better than the 4 while much better than the 3+. So far the screen has been great, just take care of it and keep it protected as often as possible. I just received these in the mail also:

I have this
http://www.amazon.com/RAVPower®-10400mAh-External-Thunderbolt-Incredible/dp/B009V5X1CE

It charges stuff really quick but it takes forever to recharge the pack. I could get maybe 6 or more charges out of it.

I have a RAVpower 10,400mAh unit. Works well, as long as I use the OEM cable (still looking for a short USB cord which can handle the LG G2).

One of the best portable phone chargers I have ever used (though its $5 over your limit): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009V5X1CE/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Someone else suggested this same fan (but here is a link for $9.99 instead of $19.95) I used it last year in my tent and it worked great: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AVMSEY/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (thinking about making a swamp cooler with this fan and a styrofoam cooler this year!)

If your car camping, this is can charge/run 7 different items at once: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EY6RJKA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also if car camping, and will need to run your car at all to charge things, a flexible duct to route exhaust out of your campground is invaluable!: http://www.amazon.com/Dundas-Jafine-BTD48TC-ProFlex-Transition/dp/B0015UGPWQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1396231801&sr=8-3&keywords=dryer+vent
