The iHome 5-1 smart monitor has both light and motion detection. https://www.amazon.com/iHome-iSS50-Smartmonitor-monitoring-anywhere/dp/B01LZUSJ26

This is a fairly inexpensive one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZUSJ26/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it goes on sale, every now and then, for $19

I picked up the iHome 5-in-1 sensor and I'm doing something similar to this with it, but for temperature. Oddly enough, I have to use the Elgato Eve app to set up the automation. Here's the setup:

-Koogeek wifi smart plug
-iHome sensor
-Eve app
-if the temperature goes below x or above y, turn off/on outlet, respectively

It shows up in the Home app as a really funky automation but it works. Anyways, you might have some luck with the iHome sensor. Oh, it also shows up in the Home app without any work arounds and can be used as a triggering event.

There's a lot of options for this one. If you're an Apple HomeKit fan, Elgato has these. However, they're low power bluetooth which means something always has to be around to collect the signal if you want to be able to check it outside of your home on your phone for example. If you have an AppleTV 4 then this will do that and relay the info in real time to your phone.

If you are considering upgrading your thermostat, Ecobee has these that provide feedback to the thermostat so you can set the temperature based off a particular room at different times of day. Or you can just look at the temperature in those rooms.

Or if you want a stand alone solution, try something like iHome's WiFi sensor.

There are other options like this: https://www.amazon.com/SensorPush-Wireless-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Android/dp/B01AEQ9X9I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483371811&sr=8-3&keywords=wireless+temperature+sensor
But those require a bluetooth connection. If you're not in the house you won't get a reading.
