Lots of YouTube videos showing them used on nuts, locks, axles. I prefer my open-end one since I can use it on tighter spots; though closed-end ones should be stronger. I've used my old K-D 715 for 40+ years now, with no damage to it other than replacing the cutter bit once. I notice a K-Tool KTI70715 has good reviews but doesn't look as sturdy or compact as my K-D 715.
edit: may not be apparent in the videos, but you need to keep cutting-bit inline with the bolt, to split the nut. If it's crosswise (inline with threads) or angled, it won't split it. Once split, nut comes off easy with fingers or pliers. Good idea to clean up old bolt threads with thread chaser a.k.a. rethreading die.
