I'm looking to get a second monitor to go with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) [MacBookPro11,3]

I was thinking of maybe getting a 4k or 1440p monitor, but since my computer is relatively old i'm not sure if those would even work.
Based on some research I was thinking of getting maybe this one: LG 27UL500-W 27-Inch

What do people recommend is the best monitor I could get for my current macbook pro, and maybe a future macbook pro if i decide to get a newer model in a few years?

No need for another CPU cooler, the 3600 includes one.You may need to add some case fans to get some air moving through your system.

The only other option I can think of for a network connection is something like this and running an ethernet cable to your mobo's rear I/O.

Monitors really depend on what you want to do with your comp and what your components are capable of. Your components are solid for 1440p 60+ hz on ultra settings in most games. If you are using this computer for photo and video editing, then you are going to want a color-accurate IPS panel in your monitor. Unfortunately, these are the priciest of the bunch and are not immune from other issues such as back light bleed/ IPS glow. They also have slower response times in comparison to TN/VA panels. If you are able to write any of this off as a business expense, then go for a beastly monitor, if you are looking for a budget but quality IPS monitor go with this 1440p IPS monitor
, or this one for 4k. There are tons of monitors out there and I am sure you can find a better one for a lower price, but this peripheral is more subjective than most components when it comes to appearances and specifications desired. Objectively, your computer monitor should either match or be greater than whatever resolution you are shooting your video in.

OMG that was a lot of text, check out /r/Monitors for more info. Their sidebar has a great beginners guide that breaks down the specifications and what all the mumbo jumbo about panel types and resolutions mean to the end user.

The LG 27UK500-W

I was extremely close to buying this monitor, until it made more sense for me to buy a 144hz 1440p one.

The 58 is the older version, I think this one has an audio port also thinner bezels?

Theres also LG 27UL500-W version for $280. (actually I think the 500 is a newer model and even has HDR, but has thicker bezels?) Although I don't understand why the default price for one is 500 vs 350 for the other).

There is an even newer model the 27UL600, that someone posted a deal of earlier from best buy for 350. But the first review says the HDR isnt worth it.
