This one bought it because it came with lights and was reasonably priced. I thought about building one for cheep but... naw.
Here's another good option on Amazon. It's the one I have and is great.
For a lightbox, you can find decent quality cheap ones online so that it's almost not worth building it yourself -- I own this: http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-Table-Photo-Studio-Light/dp/B001MYASTG and can recommend it highly. It's $39. It comes with multiple color backgrounds. It comes with two cheap yet acceptable lights -- but don't expect much from the lights, and assume you'll need to upgrade them with ANYTHING else, including just some basic table lamps.
(In general, Cowboy Studio makes good cheap stuff for this; http://www.amazon.com/LimoStudio-Photography-Lighting-Chromakey-Backgrounds/dp/B005FMKJ1I/ seems to be a similar product too)
If you are looking for a light box this one is really nice for the price. You can look at my submitted stuff here on reddit and see my Tau were done using it, and im just using a camera phone.
The most important thing is to have good lighting / backdrop. Good lighting can make a shitty camera take reasonably good pictures. I would recommend some staging though, just so every item in your burger is visible in the photo. Don't spend hours on it, but spend 3-5 minutes constructing it so it will look good in a 2D space.
Get a kit like this so there aren't any distractions in the background. At a minimum, snap the photo much closer to the food so 80% of the frame is the food. Also, get low. Like a 0-15% angle. Like this
Also, if you are taking a photo of food on a plate, then the plate needs to be the right size. Too much empty space doesn't look good.
Snorting is cool too!!!
Here I am hamming it up with two good pals.
Link to item will be updated shortly or a surprise is always good. This light box would be amazing for photographing my food for the weekly challenge I'm doing!
Thanks for the contest, i found it amusing!!!
For $9 more you can get a set that includes lights.
Also, slightly more expensive but nifty and ultra portable, the Foldio is what I use. I got in on the kickstarter and received my reward back in March. I love mine.
Edit: I'd like to note that Foldio sells their LED light strips by themselves for only $10. They have an adhesive backing and only need a 9v battery. Super useful to convert or make your own lightbox set up.
Edit 2: Nevermind, apparently their shipping is $10, I didn't know. : /
Edit 3 - The Final Editing: HA! I found the same basic item on amazon!
White 15cm (6 inch) PVC LED Strip 15 LED Waterproof Flexible pre-wired 2 pack runs on a 9v, only $8 and free shipping. I actually just bought one so I could add more lighting options to my Foldio.
Hey you might want to invest in something like this if you wanna get some top notch pictures. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005FMKJ1I/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687462&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001BAJLD0&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1T1K8WNCBN8Z966F2KKZ
Like a little fold up cloth box, and the lights are on tiny tripods like this?
