Also remember that a Presta valve has a specific screw on pump adapter piece you need to use for the pump.
Unscrew the valve like you have done already, screw on the pump adapter to the Presta Valve so that the adapter goes past the valve head(the small gold piece) then place pump over the adapter. After you have tire inflated you must close the small gold valve by twisting it until it is firm against the silver valve stem.
