Well, if she wants to be doing a lot of design on it, she's going to want an IPS display, and if she wants to take it around everywhere, I'd completely avoid a 17.3" laptop. They are heavy, get the worst battery life, and a convertible (flip/tablet capability) would be totally useless at that size.

If you want a digitizer, that is seriously going to limit things, and in that case, overall the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 would be the way to go for that, but the lowest end one is going to cost $799, and the Surface Type Cover is a separate purchase at $125. Although you may be able to get them each a little cheaper on Amazon.

At 15.6" for a convertible, this Asus Q502LA is going to be the best option under $700. Get it while it's on sale if you can. It's normally $799. It has a 15.6" 1920x1080 IPS display, which is ideal for the graphics and photo work as mentioned earlier, it's slim, high quality, and has great specs with an i5-4210U, 8GB RAM, and 5+ hour battery life.

I actually am going to hold on my books for now. Those ideas need to manifest a little longer. They aren't going to disappear overnight and in fact its better I take a break on it for now, because I really need to build up my coding foundations first
