Ask me this 2 months ago and I would say, "No, have a good big breakfast." However, for about the past few months, I have been making shakes for breakfast and couldn't be happier. Before, I was pretty much Mr. Subway or Starbucks breakfast sandwiches everyday. I was spending ~ $50 a week just in breakfast food. Absurd.

I don't think powder alone will get you very far. I know I would be hungry again in an hour.

So, in about 5 minutes, I mix the following in a blender:

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 cup water (or so)
  • 3/4 cup organic flax/pumpkin or Ancient Grain/almonds cereal. This stuff is so good.
  • small handful of walnuts crushed by hand.

  • 2 scoops whey/casein blend protein

The above starts my morning off right and keeps me mostly satiated until lunch approaches. That says a lot for a 215lb guy. If I know I am going to be working extra hard/long/or going snowboarding or something, I toss in another 1/4-1/2 cup of regular old oats to get the carb content up.

My Dad (a long time fan of the breakfast shake) told me the other day he has been using a cup of spinach in his shakes, and says it adds little to zero flavor. I may give this a whirl for an even greater anti-oxidant boost.

Oh, I also add in my daily creatine and beta-alanine as well.

Precision Nutrition has some fantastic shake recipes, many which could be well suited to breakfast time and with some tweaking, to whatever nutritional/caloric goals you may have. Check them out.

It must be noted that I would much prefer to sit down and have a nice big breakfast, but this works given that I am a sleepyhead. I do love some breakfast, a handful of eggs, a few sweet potato pancakes and some nice patty sausage.....damnit, now I am hungry.

I order this all the time, and it lasts me a month or so for breakfast. I usually eat it with a smoothie, and a multivitamin. (The multivitamin I don't count towards the total.)

I buy a bunch of berries, I mean an arseload. Usually at farmers markets, and then freeze them. Strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and raspberry usually, throw those with a banana and some rice milk into a blender... And you have a good source of morning awesomeness at about 40 bucks a month.

Lunch I usually do an organic peanut butter, and honey sandwich with a glass of OJ, and a glass of tea.

Dinner varies, that's where I get my variance in diet is in dinner. My son is a vegetarian and thus most of what I cook is vegetarian and/or organic. He eats the same as I do, save I mix nongluten wannabe cheerio's into the flax seed for him.

(Occasionally, I'll also grill a large amount of vegetables, say 10 pounds, then throw half in the freezer and the other half in the fridge so that I can heat them up quickly.)

The most important thing to eating cheaply I've found is farmers markets, ordering online and buying in bulk. Not only buying in bulk, but COOKING in bulk. Sunday, I cook from about 10 AM to 6 PM. But, I don't spend more than 10 minutes in the kitchen per day for the rest of the week. (No microwaves involved, all toaster oven. Wrap it in foil, and cook it up, either that or I resteam it.)

Was it this? https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Path-Organic-Granola-Pumpkin/dp/B001EO5RFE (Amazon link as I can't find a working listing on Costco.com). They were sampling it in my store a few days ago. It's also one of my favorites...when it goes on sale I always stock up. Costco has a couple of other granola type cereals too, so I may be wrong.

I think I will go for this. Is this the one? How does it taste?
