I'm curious about this too, since I deal with scarring on both cheeks+nose from years of acne. I even have some pitting on both cheeks from this. The only thing that's really helped is microdermabrasion. I got a system a few years ago that I LOVED that was only a little tube of the aluminum crystals/cream and then the after moisturizer--the L'oreal Refinish kit. Recently, I got the Vasanti Brighten-up! in a Birchbox and loved it. I don't know what it is, but for some reason--acids really tick off my face, and although I use Salicylic Acid 2% on both cheeks constantly the only real difference I ever notice is with aluminum oxide crystals.

I have heard bad things about microtears, as well as possibly causing other long-term problems with microdermabrasion(including systems like the PMD), so for now I'm trying to find an acid peel or acid concentration that doesn't irritate my skin and burn it, but still actually gives me results.

So start with 2% salicylic acid(like, literally just stridex pads), if you don't see any change after encouraging some skin cell turnover with that, then bump it up to glycolic acid pads, or Try these St. Ives Exfoliating pads, which are an AHA, but really, you're going to have to test around.

I currently got a jar of the stridex pads, just to test them out. I've been using them roughly a week and haven't noticed a major difference, so I'll likely try to finish out the jar, and then when I do, bump up to like, an 8% acid scrub or something similar that's going to be a little rougher, and hope that it works well. I've picked out the thing I'm going to try but I do want to give it a go with just regular salicylic acid first.

Also, use moisturizer. I swear to god I never thought I'd need moisturizer my whole life. I have oily skin. My makeup oils itself off in the summertimes, but I still need moisturizer! It will help as far as avoiding solar Comedones if you settle on a moisturizer with SPF in it(15-30 is fine), and also help your pores kind of...reshape themselves? I don't know, but I've been using the Aveeno Positively radiant^(r) daily moisturizer with broad spectrum...spf 30. (Which may be overkill, but whatever man, it's my face). I have noticed that my pores actually seemed to shrink from properly moisturizing my skin and cleansing it in general. So....you could get a gentle or moisturizing cleanser, or just use some stridex pads and then put a moisturizer on. Up to you.

I really should do a post with my skincare routine sometime. It hasn't really solidified yet(and I forget...a lot), but I'm sure I could get some good info to improve what I'm doing.

Most facial exercise sites are scams. None of their B&A photos are real.

Your facial volume look fine. It's just your texture. It looks really dry and dull. Have you tried alpha hydroxy acids like St. Ives Exfoliating Pads or Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel?

Apply a thin layer of Vaseline or Aquaphor after Paula's Choice skin Recovery Mask to lock the moisture in.

You need an actual sunscreen especially when you are using Retin-A.

I really like Paula's Choice SKIN PERFECTING 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant with Glycolic Acid, Chamomile, and Green Tea - 3.3 oz

I use it in the am to even out skin texture and smooth acne scarring.

Oh, this thread is perfectly timed!

I started using the Paula's Choice AHA Gel about a month ago. I use it every other night after washing my face with CeraVe, then follow with moisturizer. Then in the morning I wash my face again, then moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup.

The AHA is the only new thing, and since starting to use it my skin does indeed look brighter, but it also feels stingy all day and I've had more breakouts.

I'm wondering if the AHA is damaging my skin, if I'm doing it wrong, or if I just need to give it more time.

Is it beneficial to use both an AHA exfoliant like Paula's Choice 8% AHA gel AND another exfoliant like Cure Natural Aqua Gel? Or is just one or the other optimal (considering cost, too, which is expensive for both)?

Honestly thats understandable, but from my 10 years of trial and error i found that its never provides a consistent complexion. Changing variables such as diet, vitamins, sleep, water, non-comedogenic products, washing 1x daily , twice daily, not at all seem to always lead be back to square one.

I hate using chemical products as well but, the chemicals provide reliability. This is what I use now. keep in mind that this regimen i got 95% clear consistently, quit because i thought i didnt need it anymore. only have the nightmares bumps come back and have to go through the whole process again. which put me back 4 months just to get clear again. And I did this 4 times, dumb me...

I definitely bought like 6 containers after that news broke but they're all gone :(. Is the Paula's Choice gel this one? It's nice that they have a travel size so I can test it out before committing to the larger bottle.

Great, thanks!

Last few questions (sorry, I'm hell bent on trying to fix this ASAP)

By acid, you're referring to the AHA product, correct?

I recently bought these off Amazon - the first as I was told it helps with the fading process and the second as the AHA solution. What order should I be using these?
